We are all set tomorrow night, 7pm sharp, for Part 1 (of 2) of our Stock Screening session. Please take a moment to make sure your RSVP ("yes" or "no") is up to date. Thanks!
We will be reviewing stock selection methodolgies as tracked by AAII. While there are more than 60 screens tracked on a monthly basis since January 1998, we will discuss the AAII approach at a general level and then explore 5 different screens in some level of detail (2 growth, 2 value and 1 momentum). If you have not yet made stock screening an integral part of your stock investing, this session will really help you to get started. I will be using the AAII Stock Investor Pro screening software to facilitate the presentation, so you will get some exposure to it as well.
I anticipate that this will be the first of a series of stock investing topics. Part 2 (of 2) is scheduled for June 15. Subject to your input, I am also planning sessions on valuation, financial statement analysis, and a 1 or 2 part session on technical analysis.
We will be raffling off a Morningstar/Andex 2010 Wall Chart (25" x 38", valued at $30). All paid ($5 at-the-door) attendees will be eligible for the drawing - but you must be there at the start of the session (7pm!). We can also take orders for the chart at a group discounted price of $18 each. (takes a few weeks for delivery). The Andex Chart:
- Illustrates the growth of $1 invested in U.S. and global markets since 1926
- Eight indexes pictured include U.S. small-cap stocks, S&P 500, global ex-U.S. stock markets, government bonds, fixed-term investments, Treasury bills, inflation, and a hypothetical balanced portfolio
- Each chart provides detailed context for market downturns and recoveries, including U.S. presidencies, wars, employment rates, commodity prices, minimum wage, recessions, droughts, historic political events, and more
- New for 2010: ?Market Timing Risk? graph highlights the impact for investors of missing the one best month of an annual return
