Yoga, meditation, horseback riding, dance, listening to live music, opera, theatre, museums, concerts (I especially like classic rock and rock from the '80s. I love being by the water and am definitely a warm weather person. I'm interested in doing more outdoor activities including hiking. However, I'm a pure novice and only able to walk on a flat surface for three miles. I'm interested in support groups for women (and men) going through divorce and self-improvement/self-esteem. I love reading and enjoy being around people who are educated and like to discuss interesting things of an academic nature. I'm interested in spirituality as a means to finding peace, reduce stress, self-love and learning to be alone. I was in a co-dependent marriage for 29 years and want to rediscover who I am. I also find that along with divorce comes alot of loneliness. I want to meet new people and make new friends. I'm a very open-minded person and very accepting of different religions, races.
I've discovered Sertino's in Smithtown which used to be the old Sizzler on Main Street. They have open-mic nite on Thursdays and other professional musicians in a very relaxed coffee-house setting. I'm also looking for people interested in opera. On the first Fridayof the month a group in Northport offers opera (arias by various singers who are very talented amateurs) and it only costs $10. They also perform in Oyster Bay on (I believe) the third Sunday at 4:00. I'd like to try attending some plays at local theatres in Long Island such as the one in Northport. They frequently offer special deals which involves a reduced price for the play and dinner at a restaurant in Northport. I also love foreign and classic films and would love to combine dinner and a movie at the Huntington Cinema Arts Center. Finally, I would like to attend some concerts at the local venues on Long Island.
Hi my name is Marcia and I'm in the process of getting a divorce. My best friend, Barbara, who is also single told me about this group. I live in Smithtown and am particulary interested in joining groups close to home.
Meeting this group at The Toast for brunch was my first social experience with a Meetup group. Although I've joined many Meetup groups because I have many interest and want to try out new adventures, I was particularly attracted to this group because my parents live in P. J. and I'm quiet familiar with the town. I live in Smithtown and like to stay local because it's difficult for me to find new venues at night. I also love going to brunch and miss going out here on L.I. because when I lived in the city, you ciould find a restaraurant or bar on every corner that served brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. What interested me in joining this group was the wide variety of events they offer. There really is something for everyone. And lastly, I was really attracted to Jeanne D.'s photo, the co-organizer. She looked very friendly and someone who would make you feel very welcome. The food at the Toast was group and the group was small so that it was easy to have meaningful conversations.
