Lets go green with sustainable aquaponics... What does this really mean?
Aquaponics is a rapildy growing idea of growing a food fish in the water used to sustain the hydroponic growing of fresh vegetables and fruits for not only your family but the local community as well.
As people who deeply care about not only the environment and the local communtiy, we have an obligation to our children and future generations to do what we can to reduce the damage we do to our planet. This can only be accomplished through public awareness and education.
We need to change the way we look at our environment and how we interact with it. Aquaponics makes sense in this ideal.
In Aquaculture (growing fish for food) there is waste water that is full of nutrients, these nutrients are dumped into local waterways and can cause environmental damage but fueling Algae blooms in those local waterways which have been linked to fish kills and environmental damage.
Hydroponics has the same problem, chemicals used in the systems become "out of balance" and need to be dumped also causing damage.
Aquaculture combined with hydroponics creates a closed system that is environmentally friendly and safe
