Topic: Building Context-Aware Mobile Apps with Persistent Ambient Sensing

Speaker: Dr. Sam Liang

Speaker Bio: Sam Liang is the CEO and Co-Founder of Alohar Mobile Inc, the leading mobile ambient intelligence company, based in Palo Alto, California. Alohar Mobile has created the most advanced mobile context technologies, which are widely praised by Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, TechCrunch, BBC, Robert Scoble, etc. Alohar's investors include the first investors in Google, Hotmail, Baidu. Before founding Alohar Mobile, Sam was the platform architect of Google Location Server for near four years, which powers thousands of mobile applications on a spectrum of platforms, including Android and iOS. Sam also architected Google's mobile location API and Google Latitude application. Sam held a number of patents in wireless and mobile technologies. Sam has a Ph.D in EE from Stanford University, specialized in Internet systems. He also has a BS in Computer Science from Peking University.

Brian Chu leads engineering on Yahoo!'s mobile weather products, on which millions of user depend. He won the Yahoo! internal hack event that demonstrated an unique and aesthetically beautiful way to represent weather. He will discuss his journey of taking a hack idea through to a full fledged product and will discuss how to be innovative while balancing the needs of corporate citizenry and startup adaptiveness. Technical issues encountered during the implementation in the Android platform will also be discussed.

7:45-8:30

Topic: Multi-Media framework in Android

Speaker: Doug Stevenson (Android Architect GREE)

Speaker Bio:

Doug is currently an Android Architect at Gree International, designing
a client platform for games with worldwide exposure. Previously, he was
the Android team lead at SoundHound, one of the Play Store's all time
top applications. He has also taught extended Android boot camp classes
in addition to Java classes. Doug is also the developer of Act 1 Video
Player, which is a personal project that has enjoyed success on the Play
Store.
