We're now at 220 of you and the bigger we are, the easier it is to create events worth organising a group for, and of course the more people to learn and share between so its good to see the numbers still growing. The stars are out! - The weather has returned to being ever so slightly more predictable this week and while I wasn't able to organise anything tonight, I might be interested in tomorrow (Wednesday) for a meet. We do have a lot going on the next John G Mar 3, 2015 8:20 PM
Happy Christmas/holiday season and clear skies to you all! - All, Hope your festive season is going well. Lets hunt some Gemini's meteors (shooting stars) tomorrow (Sunday, if weather ok) - Let's go meteor watching tomorrow (assuming sky at least a little clear) - its the bright Geminids, one of the biggest showers of the year. I've picked the location (Streatham Common) and set it for 7.45 Sunday evening. For more details, see the f John G Dec 13, 2014 11:55 AM
Clear night and full moon - Unfortunately those two things (from this email's subject) combine to make it hard to see many stars and deep sky objects like galaxies and nebulae, and I'm otherwise busy tonight so I can't plan a moon-watching or stargazing event, but don't let me st John G Dec 6, 2014 5:03 PM

Sunday clear evening likely? - After being unsure and mixed forecasts when comparing for tomorrow, it seems we might get some ok skies tomorrow for viewing. Unfortunately I've come down with a cold, so don't feel ready to stand outside for periods or organise an event, but i John G Sep 7, 2014 12:45 AM
Meetup Cancelled: Some Clear Skies, Streatham Common Stargazing - It seems tonight's meet in Streatham is not to be, I'm writing in case anyone was considering turning up at the last minute. Next time then - don't forget the social at the Weekend.   John G Sep 4, 2014 6:08 PM
Moon/Saturn conjunction tonight - Hi all, especially to our newer members. The moon is in conjunction tonight with Saturn and it might well be clear enough to see - attached image (if it survives the meet up list forwarding) demonstrates relative positions. John G Aug 31, 2014 6:11 PM
Clarifying: (Wednesday) Clear Skies, Local Streatham Common - I was a bit lazy copying this event and so to avoid confusion from some of the description, it's date was right and I've updated the text to be clear. It's Wednesday... Apologies if you misread. John. John G Jul 22, 2014 8:28 PM
Clear Tonight - In case you hadn't been checking, tonight seems like a really clear sky for stargazing. Of course it still gets dark late, and not all that dark either really. We are only just after solstice after all. I'd love to do some more meets during the John G Jul 1, 2014 10:40 PM
Sunny side down stargazing - So its sunny for once! Hurrah. While the stormy weather more recently made it impractical to organise anything (the couple of evenings where it cleared up quite late on weren't really suitable for a casual mid-week meet), it seems we might have a chanc John G May 16, 2014 6:09 PM
Re: [swl-stargazers] Mars tonight? - Ah. The short notice again. Other people need to get in there faster than me and suggest one earlier if things like this are to happen that people can plan for better. I have one guy with a car in Tooting say he's up for meeting up. John G Apr 9, 2014 7:20 PM
RE: [swl-stargazers] Mars tonight? - Hi Lawrence.  I've also got  15 x70 binoculars.  Tooting common might be closer and I've had a small meet there a while ago with a couple turning up. Skies don't look too bad now. Are you experienced? John G Apr 9, 2014 7:15 PM
Re: [swl-stargazers] Mars tonight? - Grr! Too short notice. Would have to travel for ages to get my kit and bring it down to SW??. John M. Apr 9, 2014 6:37 PM

Re: [swl-stargazers] Clear skies - PS the moon's already visible, and only a tiny sliver lit and binoculars always make the moon look much more interesting; plus it won't get in our way with too much light as it gets darker :) John. John G Feb 2, 2014 4:57 PM
Clear skies - The weather said this afternoon would be clear but I wasn't sure whether to believe it. I think I read it wouldn't stay as nice later, but it does look hopeful. If I wasn't so busy at home I'd love to organise a social/see what happens regarding weathe John G Feb 2, 2014 4:50 PM

Photography-walk competition, BtS access to observatories (Hampshire, others) - Hi, it's a while since I've shared/set up much for the group and the clear skies last night (if I wasn't so busy/tired) inspired me a bit. Clear skies and bbc stargazing - We've got grest clear skies tonight so if you're not out with us (I just got here) at the Baker Street group meet in Regent's Park or wrapped up warm to watch BBC Stargazing Live at 8.00 (BBC2) then why not take a peek outside with any tools you have, John G Jan 9, 2014 8:14 PM
Happy Christmas stargazing! - Hope you're all having an enjoyable Christmas/holiday season. Is the weather teasing us? - Having just postponed the meet for tomorrow (albeit with noone left coming), the sky right now is amazingly cloud-free in central London right now. I expect its too last-minute to organise anything, and I'm busy for a couple more hours still anyway. Bu John G May 15, 2013 8:58 PM
Re: [swl-stargazers] Clear skies tonight! - ** Tonight! ** Again today and tonight the weather has smiled on us. While I'm ending up with quite a late dinner, I'm thinking I might well wander to Tooting/Streatham Common this evening later on with my binoculars John G Apr 20, 2013 8:39 PM
Re: [swl-stargazers] Clear skies tonight! - Yes, the sky is great tonight, I'm going out for a short while. Saturday's forecast is promising too. I'm considering going out to the edge of London at the North end of the Piccadilly line to reduce light pollution. There is a Gabor Apr 18, 2013 9:08 PM
Clear skies tonight! - Well its been a busy week for me, and some of us were at the 150-turnout regent's park meet last night with a mix of cloud and clear patches in the sky. But tonight is so clear, I'll have my binoculars out for sure; if you're free tonight then John G Apr 18, 2013 8:57 PM

Clear Skies - After last nights clear skies (about 90% I'd say), its a shame noone's ready to meet up; but why not pop out anyway and find the darkest spot near you where you feel safe. Even from your window can be useful. If you're not doing anything else, John G Apr 2, 2013 7:10 PM

Comets - We're doing very well for big rocks in our little patch of the solar system this year! After the Russian hit and the near-pass of 2012DA14 on the same day in February, this month we have a fainter one in the Western skies shortly after sunset, John G Mar 8, 2013 6:12 PM
Asteroid 2012DA14 - visible tonight in binoculars/scope - There's been a little fuss in the media recently over the various comets and asteroids that'll be coming our way in 2013.   Well, the first noticable one is made newsworthy because its coming very close to us (in solar system terms, bu John G Feb 15, 2013 6:14 PM

Re: [swl-stargazers] On the off-chance... Baker Street Astro group meeting tonight in Regent's Park - I went to Regent's Park. Amazing. Lots of various types of 'scopes. Saw a cluster and four moons of Jupiter. Wolly hat saved me this time around so John M. Nov 14, 2012 11:38 PM

Tonight's clear skies and great Jupiter position - You'll find, if its not too late for you already, that the clear skies tonight have done a great job of showing up Jupiter as the bright star-like point just to the left of the moon. Tonights skies should stay fairly clear; + help our upcoming meets take form - Last night was pretty clear, tonight looks good too; I may well be popping out to Tooting common later (or just to my local alley away from streetlights).
