Symfony2 for legacy app rejuvenation: the eZPublish case study

Details
Axiom: every developer loves to code on a green field project, but few are given this chance in their everyday job.
Theorem: being good at maintaining the horror-codebase-from-outer-space is a valuable skill to have written in your resume.
Corollary: being able to take it turn it into a shiny, lean, maintainable, buzzword-rich application - without loosing customers in the process - is pure gold.
In this talk, I will go through a real-life example, of the transition of a mammoth project (the eZPublish CMS), which was rebuilt from the ground up on an improved technology stack (Symfony).
The first part will focus on all thing non-techie that a successful migration must take into account: from how to manage customer's expectations over a long transition period to training of the support team and partners and taking over maintenance of 3rd party libraries.
The second part will be a deep-dive into the gory details of a step-wise reimplementation using Symfony 2: refactoring the front controller, integrating routing, database access layers, caching, authentication and all the rest.
