It's time to build our first float for the Tarrant County Gay Pride Week parade. Thursday night, October 3rd. (The parade is October 5th. Details below.)
We've got the wagon. We've got the truck(s). We have a yard where we can park the wagon. We've got the money. And sound. Let's do this thing !!!
We're getting together at 2732 Kinman Street in Haltom City/Fort Worth, depending on which map you use. John Spivey will be there at 5:00 with "stuff", and we hope you can be there soon afterwards. You can't get there too late to help.
To find the build site - From Hwy 121 (between downtown and NE Mall) take Carson St north to Highland Avenue. (Easy to miss. There's an Exotic Fish store on the corner). Go left on Highland to Kinman. Turn right on Kinman. Road will dead end into a large circle. We'll have the float frame in the side yard to your right, or parked in the street circle.
A few things you could bring: Ladders. Duct Tape. If anyone has the time or resources to print or make some Marriage Equality posters (see attached) that we could tape to the truck on the day of the parade, we'll use them. Tarps. Sheets of painters plastic. A generator. And prayers for good weather !
A few things about participating in the parade.... While the Alan Ross parade in Dallas has been enthusiastically welcomed by the city of Dallas, the Fort Worth parade has had some protesters. Some people have gotten in participants' faces with bullhorns, trying to get a negative response from them so they can put pics on blogs or Facebook. We need for everyone to just smile and wave if something like that happens. Yes, the protesters are the ones to "initiate force", but just let it go. Let it go. Let it go....
No alcohol. NOTHING can be thrown from the float. No bullhorns.
The parade/staging lineup begins at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, October 5th and they want all participants in place by 11:00. The event kicks off at noon. We are entry #16, and will be parked on 2nd Street between Taylor and Burnett. The parade is going down Houston Street this year, because of all the construction on Main, and ends at the Convention Center. There will be food vendors and music at the end, so we hope you can hang out for a while.
We are taking a measureless pride in being in this event for the first time. Hope to see you there!
