big news about the Doctor Who meetup - and a charity project that's super easy!

You know that RSVP system that makes you all nuts?
For the next three months, we HAVE NO CAP. Tracie, the manager at Merlin's Rest, has informed us that she can accommodate as many people as come in, so we're taking her at her word. Want to bring a friend? Bring 10! We are doing a total open door policy. I do ask, pretty please, that you still actually do the RSVP on meetup - and please don't do the "maybe" in the field, that's just ill-mannered. Tracie does still ask for counts before we go so she can make sure we have adequate staff while we're there, and never again have a repeat of what we all refer to as the "World Cup 2010 incident."
Next - starting in November we will always have a box out for canned food donations. Bring a can if you're able; it's a low pressure thing. All the food shelves in the Twin Cities are at crisis levels and getting wiped out almost daily. We plan to make a tiny contribution by adopting the 8th street shelter (has the easiest donation drop off policy) and for any of you that are members of other science fiction organizations, please be super cool and talk to your own organization about adopting a shelter and doing the same thing every month. Not everyone will be able to donate for a bunch of reasons, and that's totally OK. Just get what donations you can to your shelter of choice - we can actually solve a serious community problem if we make doing this very simple, small thing part of local science fiction culture. Feel free to forward this message like mad to people who consider this information relevant.
You'll be hearing more about the fundraising for the 5th anniversary celebration as that progresses. We do have donation buttons for PayPal and Amazon up on our site, and Starling (aka Jaime - Jay -meeee) is the person to talk to if you would like to donate for the ongoing silent auction we are running. We welcome donations of all legal items and services you wish to contribute.
Cheers to all and happy journeys!
