I'll be including this in announcements as well, but I wanted to make sure those who can't necessarily make it to today's meetup are in on this as well.
The official 5th anniversary meetup is next month; you'll be getting your usual reminder email about the date and time. This is our usual tradition of having cake, and if possible a pub quiz. This is in addition to the big event this year.
So what happened with that whole marathon thing? Where'd it go?
While we really, REALLY wanted to rent a theater and do a day-long marathon for the Who meetup, BBC prevented that with their "no sponsors" requirement for the event. They'll let us do it - as long as there are no sponsors underwriting the event.
The logic chain is as follows:
1. BBC can't give us an "official" license, but they know about us (and have for awhile), and they're fine letting us do what we do as long as we don't collect corporate money to do it. They're fine with us, but no written licensing will be available from them.
2. There is no local theater that will let us show in their space without written licensing.
3. We can't really afford any theater without the sponsorship anyway.
If you want to see what's going on with the fundraising and finances, you can see a monthly updated report here:
So any and all fundraising for this event is what we as members of the organization must do ourselves.
ALL IS NOT LOST! We're going to have a 5th anniversary Doctor Who tailgate party in July.
We'll be setting up in a public park (tentatively Armatage park) with inflatable screens and all that fun stuff. This is where YOU can help make this happen.
What you can do to help create a totally awesome 5th anniversary tailgate party:
Remember, until Merlin's Rest says otherwise, RSVP limits have been lifted - but they still require the closest to an accurate head count I can provide. Bring whoever you like, just let me know they're coming!
