Zikr is a 1500 year old form of ecstatic chanting that utilizes sacred words and phrases and draws its practitioners toward awakening of the heart, enlivening of spirit, and deepening of awareness and feeling, compassion and joy. Zikr is moving, with chanting or singing, often enhanced by evocative rhythms and melodies with or without accompaniment of drums or musical instruments. Zikr has a deeply spiritual basis, yet there is no sermon, no dogma, nothing to join, no human leader to submit to. The Zikr offers each person the freedom to learn and develop their own spiritual values at their own pace in their own way. Zikr brings a softening and polishing of the heart, a practice of ecstasy.
Bring an open mind and a friendly, embracing heart with a desire to stir the soul. Invite folks you know, and let’s renew our friendships, expand our hearts, and bring joy and clarity to the path of awakening . Please join us!
"Forget yourself, get into the spirit of song, rise and fall on the waves of ecstasy, and express your pure being. Then you escape all differences, all divisions, all duality, all pain, all sorrow". Murshid Samuel L. Lewis
Gaile Rahmana Sickel is a Sufi initiate of the Chisti lineage through the Sufi Ruhaniat International and Nur Aski Jerrahi lineage through Sheikha Fariha al Jerrahi, and has been a student of Sufi Zikr and the Dances of Universal Peace for over 40 years. As an elder in the path of the heart, she shares a depth that arises from integrating psychological insight with years of spiritual practice. She brings joy, enthusiasm and depth to the path of awakening. After recently relocating to the Valley from her long time home in Hawaii, Gaile Rahmana offers this Zikr Circle in addition to the Valley's regular Phoenix Dances of Universal Peace in Tempe. Through Zikr, she has discovered a way to develop insight that we can apply to the workings of our own daily life. She lives with her husband in Phoenix where they celebrate life, gardening, and exploring nature. She is a Brain Gym ® Instructor in private practice, teaching total brain integration to individuals, groups, and educators.
