Let's do my annual birthday hike at Charmlee Park in Malibu!
The park encompasses over 532 acres, and offers specatcular views of the Malibu coastline, Channel Islands and the Pacific.
We'll start out from the Nature Center, heading up the fire road and connect to the oak-covered Meadow Woodland trail that winds through oak covered groves and up to the old reservoir. From there, we'll drop down towards an overlook where we'll take in fantastic views of the coast. We'll head back to the parking lot via Meadow Ranch trail which connects the loop.
This hike is suitable for beginners as well as the more seasoned hiker.
DISTANCE: approx. 4 miles
ELEV GAIN/LOSS: approx. 500 ft.
DURATION: approx. 2 hours
DIRECTIONS: From Westlake/Thousand Oaks, take Hwy 23 (Decker Canyon) south towards the ocean to Encinal Canyon (sign posts Lechusa Road but it quickly turns into Encinal Canyon) and turn left. Drive approx 2 miles to the entrance of Charmlee Park, on the right. Drive into park to the dirt parking lot at the trailhead.
