MODERATE CHARMLEE PARK

Details

Join us on this 4 mile r/t (approx.) hike in Charmlee Park. The park encompasses over 532 acres, and offers specatcular views of the Malibu coastline, Channel Islands and the Pacific.

We'll start out from the Nature Center, heading up the fire road and connect to the oak-covered Meadow Woodland trail that winds through oak covered groves and will take us up to the old reservoir. From there, we'll drop down towards an overlook where we'll take in fantastic views of the coast. We'll head back to the parking lot via Meadow Ranch trail which connects the loop.

I rate this hike for beginners as well as the more seasoned hiker.

Have the usual lugsoles, water, hat, layers, etc.

DIRECTIONS: From the 101, take the exit for CA-23 / Westlake Blvd. Continue south on Westlake Blvd entering Decker canyon. Continue for approx 6 miles, then bear left onto Encinal Canyon Road. Continue on this road for 1.2 miles, and the park’s entrance will be on your right. From Santa Monica, drive up PCH for 24.2 miles, passing Zuma Beach. Turn right onto Encinal Canyon Road. The entrance to the park will be 3.8 miles up the road, on your left. **There is a fee for parking, I think it's $5.00 so bring lots of ones.

I highly recommend carpooling since the parking lot fills up quickly on the weekends.
