What musicians are saying about Steve's Live Music
"In all my years of playing, I've never encountered a better venue." Glenn Phillips (legendary guitar player, who has played with Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, REM, Jon Lennon, ...)
A native Tennessean from Murfreesboro, Rebecca Windham graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where she toured with the Rhodes College Singers throughout the Southeastern U.S. and the United Kingdom. Additional performance credits include opening for Mel Torme at the Johnny Mercer Festival in Savannah, GA, the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) Conference, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Sambuca Jazz Cafe, Borders Books and Music nationwide, University of North Texas, Eddie's Attic, and St. Simons Island Jazz-in-the-Park Series. She has also enjoyed featured artist performing stints in Japan, England, Scotland, Wales, and France, and with pianist Mac Frampton and the Hollywood Hills Orchestra, touring in concert venues throughout the U.S. Rebecca's voice can be heard on countless artist albums and jingles, and her commercial recording portfolio includes session work for the Cartoon Network, MCI, Haverty's Furniture, Napa Auto Parts and other Atlanta corporations.
Rebecca has been playing the piano by ear since age 7, but it wasn't until the age of 9 when she began learning to read music through classical training. Receiving superior ratings at piano competitions took her to Belmont College in Nashville, TN to perform in recitals at an early age. Years later, as Rebecca's singing career blossomed, she was never without her muse- the piano. Returning to school as an adult to receive a Master's Degree in Music, she rediscovered harmony and the lush chords and fascinating rhythms that make up jazz.
In 2001, this award-winning singer- songwriter released her debut album of original music "To A Warmer Heart", which features Rebecca's piano playing as well as that of other outstanding musicians. She has written piano songs appropriate for students of almost any age from late beginner to early advanced levels, and enjoys accompanying, producing, and mentoring her students along the way. Rebecca has experience working in Japan as a solo act accompanying herself on piano, and has arranged for a variety of musical configurations, from jazz trio to big band and orchestra.
Co-founding the vocal jazz quartet, South City Voices, Rebecca has also served as its vocal director and arranger. Having been compared to the Manhattan Transfer, this dynamic vocal group has toured the country and performed with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra as well as local concert venues such as Libby's Cabaret. In the fall of 2003 the group released, "Got Swing" which Rebecca also co-produced.
With 3 CD's to her credit and a vocal jazz arrangement on the Sony/BMG record label, Rebecca has also appeared as a guest performing artist/lecturer with nationally renowned author and American song scholar Dr. Philip Furia at Middle Tennessee State University for a tribute to songwriter Johnny Mercer. A reunion of the South City Voices took her into the studio to sing on the 2nd album of pop recording artist Brent Cash on the German record label, Marina Records. Album is scheduled for release in 2011.
When not performing, teaching or recording, Rebecca divides her time and passions among arranging, writing, producing, and conducting music workshops and talent showcases around the Atlanta area.
