New Meetup: Island Ford Chattahoochee River hike, social during and after

Announcing a new Meetup for 35UP!!

What: Island Ford Chattahoochee River hike, social during and after

When: Saturday, September 18,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Island Ford-Chattahoochee River headquarters
1978 Island Ford Parkway
Sandy Springs, GA 30350
[masked]

Preface: My apologies to all who signed up on Sundays version, but my computer showed Sunday open for posting, when two events were already posted; so leaders and folks wanting to attend Sunday hopefully can make it Saturday morning-sorry if you cant.

The hike: Ok, call me repetitive, but the crowds are getting bigger for this hike, and its a great park for the unintiated; and will be taken at a slow pace to enjoy nature. Island Ford is the headquarters for all of the Chattahoochee River units up and down the river in Atlanta. There are restrooms here we can use before and after our leisurely walk along the river and hike up some small hills-- not more than two and half miles total.

The River is usually full of Canadian Geese, wood ducks, and we may see Blue Heron. This is a nice wooded park, so the tempertures outside are always cooler, plus September has been nice so far. I have moved this fourth time for this event back one hour for the hotter temps later in the day we might encounter-should be done with the walk around noon. The earlier time should allow any wanting to do other things later that day, to easily plan both, even if you dine with us after.

After the hike: My choice for dining afterwards is the Peachtree Diner off of Holcomb Bridge Road, a litle over a mile west on Holcomb at 915 Holcomb Bridge Road. My first choice listed had too limited a menu. Peachtree Diner has fantastic menu options and great reviews-generous portions. Check them out at www.peachtreediner.com.

Directions: This park is off of the Northridge exit 6 on Highway 400. If coming from the South, stay in the right lane, turn right onto Dunwoody Place, travel .5 mile (1/2mile), turn right onto Roberts Drive and travel another .7 mile to Island Ford Parkway --sign on the right marks the park. (Coming from the North the exit loops around and you travel straight ahead onto Dunwoody Place) and follow the directions above. Travel to the end of the road and park and we'll meet at 10am. Look for my Red Ford Escort.

Please make sure and bring $3.00 for parking fee, unless you have a federal park pass. The site for Island Ford is at www.nps.gov/chat
