Inner Basin

Inner Basin  Saturday Sept 28, 2013  Carpool 7am, Hike 10am

Moderate 8 miles RT Elevation Gain 1,900 feet

Join me on National Public Lands Day for this lovely Fall colors hike in the San Francisco Peak's Inner Basin. We'll attempt it a little earlier this year, as last year it snowed the week before our hike and dropped all the leaves, giving us a wonderful "winter" show! From Right to Left you will see Rees Peak (11,474ft), Abineau Peak (11,878), Agassiz Peak (12,356), Fremont Peak (11,969) & Doyle Peak (11,460). The trek in is a steady climb through aspen, fir and pine forests and ends at the Weatherford Trail.

DUE TO THE HIGH ELEVATION AND TIME OF YEAR, INCLEMENT WEATHER CAN OCCUR. BE PREPARED FOR RAPID AND UNPREDICTABLE WEATHER, INCLUDING SNOW!

HIGH CLEARANCE 4-WHEEL or ALL-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES REQUIRED! GROUP SIZE WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE NUMBER OF HCVs AVAILABLE!

Optional lunch afterwards at Mary's Cafe 7136 US89 Flagstaff 928.526.0008.

Carpool: 7am Bagel Gourmet 16845 N. 29th Ave #4 in the West end of the Fry's shopping center at I-17/Bell Road.

Directions: Take I-17 to Flagstaff, merge onto I-40 East toward Albuquerque. Take exit 201 Country Club Drive and turn left toward US 89N/Page. Rurn Right on 89 for 12 miles to FR420 directly across from the Sunset Crater turnoff. Turn Left on FR 420 for about a half mile, turn Right on FR552 and follow about 5 miles. Rurn Right at the Lockett Meadow sign, continuing to the trail head.

Bring:3-4 liters water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, camera, rain/snow gear, jacket, gloves & $1 voluntary donation for the 3H fund.
