Ruby Hack Night - SPECIAL DAY LONG RAILS 3.1 SPECTACULAR!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I've edited the date of the Hack night, and it's grown to an enormous, super-sized, day long event!

If you haven't been living under a rock for the past few months, you've probably noticed that Rails 3.1 is due to be released very soon. The Rails core team has announced a weekend hackfest to polish up Rails 3.1. Since this was so close to our hack night date anyway, we're going to join the hackfest and host the live Toronto Rails 3.1 Hackfest.

If you're looking for a chance to help out and contribute back to the Rails community, this is an awesome opportunity.

Details on the hackfest are here:  http://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2011/7/14/rails-3-1-hackfest

We'll be starting at 10 AM on Sunday, and will keep going as long as there's interesting things to work on. Unfortunately, the outside door to our office is locked on weekends, so please call[masked] if you arrive later than 10:15. It's a long event, so feel free to arrive whenever suits your schedule.

ZOMG BONUS!!!: I'm going to try and wrassle up some money for pizza and some soft drinks. We would really appreciate anyone who would be interested in pitching in or a one-time sponsorship though. For those attending, one way or another, we'll find a way to feed you and provide ample soft drinks.

IMPORTANT DETAILS

Time: Sunday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM (and maybe later)

Hey all, sorry for the lack of updates. Feel free to drop by if you're currently on the waiting list. In terms of schedule for tomorrow, we are going to keep things fairly open. For ideas on what you could be working on, visit rubyonrails.org, and view some of the ideas on the blog.

I'll be waiting outside of Influitive's offices until around 10:15 - 10:30. If you arrive later, please call[masked] so I can let you in the building.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

hey guys, it seems the 30 person limit has been hit. wondering if this is an actual hard cap since this is a day long event?

It's up to you. The caterers should be arriving around lunch time so if you'd like to bring beverages before they arrive, then I can tell them to bring less with them.

Nice. I was thinking of bringing some bottled water, if that works for people. If you think youll have that covered though Taz, I'll think of something else. Or can just pitch in some cash.

I've also gone ahead and catered the event with gourmet Italian pizza, sandwiches, pop, and water for everyone. But feel free to bring energy drinks or snacks as well!

    Hey Ken,

I'm going to try to get a rough schedule and what sort of projects people will work on in the next couple of days. In any case, we're going to keep a fairly open structure and anyone who wants to work on pretty much anything described in the rubyonrails link above would be a great idea for a project.

Pitching in is no problem - if you could give estimates ahead of time that'd be awesome. Thanks!

I'll pitch in a case or two of energy drinks to help out

I'll pitch in for sure. This should be pretty cool :)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
