We had so much fun last time in April that we're going back to learn some more Argentine Tango from one of the expert Tango instructors in the Toronto area. And then, after our lesson, we're going to put our lesson into practice by dancing the night away.
Gary Dafoe has been teaching Ballroom Dancing and especially the Tango for over 20 years and was himself a Hustle champion. Gary will teach us for one hour from 8:30 to 9:30 PM. Then the lights will be turned down and we will spend the rest of the evening dancing to a variety of Tango music. This social dance is known as the Milonga.
No prior experience or expertise is required. Gary makes this dance so easy to learn that almost anyone can pick up the footwork and be doing some basic tango in just one lesson. I speak from personal experience. I have two left feet and am quite lucky that I can put one foot in front of the other and after Gary's lesson last time, even I was able to move around the room without tripping over my own feet. That's saying something! I have let Gary know that many of us are absolute beginners and to go easy on us. If you already know how to dance or do the tango, then come on down and refresh your skills and show us your stuff when the lessons are over and the social dancing starts.

Shoes
No special form of dress is required but you should wear shoes that will work well on a smooth wood dance floor. This means, running shoes, trainers, tennis shoes, boat shoes, deck shoes, flip flops, sandals, winter boots and Uggs are NOT recommended!! C'mon, this is formal ballroom dancing, so some proper dance shoes or dress shoes should be worn. And since you're going to the trouble of wearing nice shoes, why not dress up a little bit to match the shoes and dress to impress. Have you ever seen any Tango dancers in track pants? I didn't think so! LOL
Location
We will be dancing at Club 585. It is on the 2nd floor so please proceed upstairs when you get there. The lesson starts promptly at 8:30 so please try to get there by 8:15 PM.
Meeting Point
For those of you who would prefer not to walk into a dance hall by yourself, we will be gathering at the Fox & Fiddle Pub just around the corner from the dance hall, starting at 6PM. By all means, join us earlier if you wish to have a bite to eat and/or a drink or two to give you strength to attempt the Tango lessons and then we will all walk over together as a group.
If you would like to join us at the pub please RSVP for that event separately. It is on the calendar immediately prior to this one. You can also reach it by Clicking Here (https://www.meetup.com/uptowners/calendar/13919032/).
Cost
This Tango Lesson & Milonga Evening is being brought to you at a discounted price just for our group, courtesy of Grant Singer of alternaTango. Please pay $10 at the door. Complimentary bottled water will be provided.
See you there!
