Perhaps I don't advertise this enough, but our group has a blog outside of Meetup. I found the old fashioned files/folders system in Meetup aggravating. You can still view all the old topics on Meetup but new posts are disabled. All new contributions are on the blog at Posterous.
It is a much simpler email based system. The blog also updates the group Facebook and Twitter accounts simultaneously.
Since it is email based "tradingtampa" appears in the url, the group gmail account:
All are invited to participate and comment. If you would like to actually contribute to the content in the form of posts you have to email me so I can add you in the system. Be forewarned, the same posting rules apply!
New Group Memberships
The group grew very quickly the first year we took over administration, about 75% in 10 months.
I have now limited new signups to the group. In the quest to assure membership consists of actual traders and not lurkers/salesmen, I am requiring all new signups to have complete Meetup profiles. If the profile is incomplete, or questionable in content, I go a step further, requiring contact with us directly before membership approval. We are not here to entertain people for a night out nor provide sales leads to backdoor salesmen, we are hear to share the trade!
The result has been far fewer approved memberships each month. The goal is "quality" over quantity. I would rather have a group of 20 committed actual full time traders than 1000 members, of which 980 are a pain in the you know what. I hope you agree.
If you know someone who wishes to join please have them send me a little note that they are recommended to the group by you in the member sign up. That will assure instant approval.
Charles, our USF benefactor, is graduating and moving on to complete his phd. He has been the heart and soul behind the USF Investor's and Traders Society and we're going to miss him. I am hoping another student member will step up and head the group. As it stands now I am not sure about any summer Meetups at USF. March is the last scheduled meetup at USF.
The good news is that we have been given an alternate by a new company in Tampa spearheaded by Chris, CoWorkTampa. It is a large spacious area, well equipped and likely a more convenient location for many of our members at 3104 N. Armenia. Easy on and off I4 with plenty of free parking. Check out the Coworking concept on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coworking.
As soon as I have dates and times established for meetups after March, I will post them.
Don't forget to come on out to the March Meetup at USF!
