Peak Oil Lecture by Dr. Dan Bednarz Ph.D
Hosted by Transition Pittsburgh
Details
Open Books, co-sponsored by Transition Pittsburgh, is hosting an upcoming lecture on Peak
Oil by Dr. Dan Bednarz, Ph.D, formerly of the Pitt Graduate School of
Public Health. On behalf of Dr. Bednarz, who personally requested your
attendance, we would like to invite you to attend this momentous
event.
As you may know, Peak Oil says that the world's finite supply of oil
will eventually be exceeded by excess demand. When this happens, the
costs of energy will rise, affecting practically every aspect of our
lives, including food, transportation, healthcare, education, and so
on. Current economic models, which typically assume perpetual growth
and everlasting supplies of energy, are unable to predict accurately
the future in which we will live.
Dr. Bednarz's talk will first present a brief overview of Peak Oil,
followed by an explication of how it will affect students, faculty,
and the University as a whole. In particular, he will discuss measures
the University can take to remain competitive in an uncertain future.
Following the lecture will be a question and answer session.
The event will be held in 157 Benedum Hall on Wednesday, February 23rd
at 8:30 pm.
