Durham Discussion of "Understanding Comics"

This will be the Durham session at the Duke Fuqua School of Business on Wednesday, March 20th.

We will be gathering to discuss "Understanding Comics" by Scott McCloud. The book club was inspired to read this by our very own Rachel Nabors, who wrote a great post for UX Booth that you should also check out: http://www.uxbooth.co....

You can find the book at Amazon for a reasonable price: http://ow.ly/1QUkiw...

From Amazon: "A comic book about comic books. McCloud, in an incredibly accessible style, explains the details of how comics work: how they're composed, read and understood. More than just a book about comics, this gets to the heart of how we deal with visual languages in general. 'The potential of comics is limitless and exciting!' writes McCloud. This should be required reading for every school teacher. Pulitzer Prize-winner Art Spiegelman says, 'The most intelligent comics I've seen in a long time.'"

Parking is free on Duke's campus after 5pm. The closest lot is across Science Drive and slightly south of the Science Drive entrance. The elevator is right inside the entrance to the left. You'll need to be escorted up because the floor locks after 5. If no-one is waiting for you or you arrive a little late, phone numbers will be posted for you to call/text and we'll come get you.

Rachel, or anyone else, do you have contact info for Doug, the guy from W3C who was there? He's not listed here, and I'd like to connect.

Thanks to everyone for coming and having another great discussion!

If anyone tried to come but got lost trying to find a room on a locked floor of a giant building with lots of doors on a giant campus with lots of parking lots, please let me know. I'm going to try to avoid this location for the future, but if I need to fall back to it, I want to make sure people can find the room okay.

    Thanks!

Hi all. Fun discussion last week! Most of you I've found and am following on twitter, but not Allen, because there are a lot of Allen Bells, lol, and not Doug, because he's not showing in the attendee list. I'm @uxisthepoint there, and would like to connect. See you next for Lean UX!

I'm going to both, so I don't think the bar can get any lower... and if Rachel's gonna be at both, then sounds like a win-win to me!

Yes, we are definitely getting together for this in March. The problem is scheduling at this point, and I'm actively working on that. One meeting in Durham, on in Raleigh again, so hopefully all will be able to make it to one or the other.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
