Upper East Side Knitters Pages

Many Meetup groups boast hundreds of members. Most members never come to events and when they do often feel anonymous. Upper East Side Knitters strives to be different from other groups in that we have an active membership who attend events regularly. Since we keep our membership small as compared to other NYC knitting groups there is almost always a spot available for you at each event.

There are some restrictions on membership which are intended to foster a tight-knit (ahem, excuse the pun) community of passionate knitters.

In order to qualify for membership you need to:

1) Live, work, or go to school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (53rd-96th St's from Central Park eastward)

2) Have previous knitting experience. We do not discriminate based on race, sex, sexual orientation, national origin or age.

3) Submit a completed profile with a picture of your face when you apply for membership. This helps create a community where people know who's coming to each event.

4) Be available to attend events on sporadic weekday evenings and weekend afternoons.

5) Submit membership dues of $10 every six months to cover fees for maintaining the website. I encourage you to come to an event in the month you sign up. If you love the group and want to keep knitting with us please pay your dues at that time in person or through MeetUp. Special events may have additional fees.

6) RSVP for events in a timely and courteous fashion. If you cannot make an event you RSVP'd yes for please go back to the website and change your RSVP to No. Our members sign up for each event to spend time with other knitters and it's polite to give them a heads up if you have to cancel.

7) Maintain frequent computer usage by checking your email and/or going online at least a few times per week.

8) Be respectful and courteous of other members and the group as a whole. Disruptive, confrontational, or combative behavior is grounds for removal from the group.

**These rules are not intended to make the group super-exclusive. The point is to have a local group where everyone knows each other. They also increase attendance at events. Remember you're welcome to become a member even if you don't live on the Upper East Side as long as you work or attend school there**
