Jake at The Ark & Post-Show Jam @ Conor O'Neill's

  • August 14, 2013 · 7:30 PM

Update #1: The concert is SOLD OUT. Doors open at 7:30. The show starts at 8. If you can't make the show but still want to jam, come by Conor O'Neill's around 9:30 or so.

Update #2: We have a bass player! No it's not Steve S. but rather another fine fellow named Steve W., a familiar face from the old Blue Tractor open mikes.

Update #3: The songbook is posted above under the "More" Tab. Click on "Files" to download the "Aug 14 Jam Book." Songs will be projected on a big screen so you don't have to have a hard copy.

Immediately following the concert, there will be a Post-Show Jam & Open Mike, next door at Conor O'Neill's (318 S. Main St). Hosted by The Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti Ukulele Meetup Club.

The jam will be held in the private Celtic Room with lyrics and sheet music projected on a big screen. We will also have a sign-up sheet for an open mike (1-2 songs per person, depending on time and the number of participants).

Anyone under 21 must be accompanied by a parent. No exceptions. Also, Conor O'Neill's is providing the space and a server just for us, so please come prepared to order food and/or a couple of drinks. We need at least 30 people to make this a success, so tell your friends to come on by!

With aloha,

Hilo Greg

Has anyone found out if we can bring our ukes into the
    Ark?

    August 10, 2013

    • Mark S.

It is okay to bring them. I've seen lots of people do it, and someone called to make sure. Somewhere in this thread.

Yes, I emailed them. You have to keep it at your seat; they won't let you store it anywhere (like any of us ever let go of it), but they said people bring instruments occasionally, including guitars.

Okay, I have a ticket to see Jake Shimabukuro next Wednesday at The Ark. It is a reserve seat and available at cost $42. Perfect for someone that won't be able to get there early to snag a good seat, it is Row D Seat 4. Downside is you'll have to sit next to me!

    Alison at the Ark says:

We have audience members bring instruments with them quite frequently, actually, so it will not be a problem for uke players to carry theirs with them.
We can’t be responsible for the instruments or any damage that could happen, of course – and we can’t offer space for people to leave them if they don’t want to have them with them throughout the show.  I don’t imagine that Jake is planning on having the audience play along at this point.
      Thanks for checking,
      Alison
