First, I'd like to formally announce the next Ultimate Potluck event. Details directly from John's email:
2432 N 77th Court.
Elmwood Park, IL 60707
I will be having a party at my place on Sept. 17 @ 6:00 to celebrate the Sept. Ultimate birthdays.
(Caz, Kevin, Mike, Doug, Alrick & I'm sure a few others). I will be serving Italian beef & a few flavored boneless wings. Please feel free to add a dish, beverage or dessert of your choosing. Games will be played, football will be on & some other activities will be added.( Kenny dancing naked with a melon on his head will not be one of them) Let me know if you will be attending & what you might be bringing.
*I would appreciate it if I can borrow someone's cooler that night.
*Feel free to bring a game or think of one to play.
* If you are driving down Grand Ave. watch your speed (30 mph) because there is usually a police car taking radar.
Hope you can make it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll encourage everyone to RSVP on the site, again with what you plan on bringing. - http://www.meetup.com/ultimatefrisbee-166/events/32541372/ - We should all be pretty familiar with this drill by now. Should be a really cool time.
Speaking of cool times, the weather very recently has gotten chillier. Just a quick reminder to everyone to try and dress appropriately. We're basically into that time of year where the weather is pretty perfect to play in, but is slightly unpleasant to stand around in. Leaving an extra layer in your car is probably a good idea.
Next, I'd like to thank everyone who attended our first Labor Day Round-Robin Tournament & Cookout. From what I could gather, the majority of folks had a good time and found the experience enjoyable. If you did NOT have a good time, or thought that something could / should have been done better / differently, please let me know (or Dean, or John, or Vince). Dean and I were responsible for setting up the teams, and most of the folks I talked with thought they were reasonably even. Given that it was one of the windiest days we've played all year, and people were still showing up during the event, I think we did about as good a job as could be expected. But maybe not. Before starting, we had a couple people do "reasonability checks" and nothing stood out as being too out of whack.
Special thanks to Vince & Peter who manned the grill, John for organizing the food run & helping clock the first round or two of the tournament, Bryan for filming what I hope is some badass footage, and Dean for the tournament idea / organization and working the clock while John was away.
Lastly, sunset on Thursday is "officially" 7:13 PM. Which really sucks for our weekday games. If you can get there at 5, that's awesome. In any case, we're probably going to be cutting down on the frequency and duration of water breaks (which isn't too bad given the weather getting colder). If you need water, go ahead and grab it, but I definitely see a lot of just "playing through." I believe last year we played weekdays until Daylight Saving Time ended. This year that would be November 3rd, with a sunset of 5:43 PM. I doubt we'll make it that far on weekdays this year, but we'll see. If we can get access to a free lighted field, that would be sweet...
See you on the field,
