Covid-19 Update:
With some of the restrictions recently lifted in Ohio surrounding Covid-19, The Cleveland Disc Association would like to put out a statement of recommendations for events. The Cleveland Disc Association recommends that meetup groups limit activities to throwing and other disc activities that can follow safe social distancing and follow Ohio state policies such as Kan Jam. It is our current understanding that Ultimate Frisbee does not fall under the current guidelines put forth by the state as one cannot maintain safe social distancing.
Who we are:
What started out as a weekly frisbee pickup game has since turned into a city-wide collective of pickup games. Some locations have regular "leaders" who will show up to set up the field and organize game-play, while others are more informal meetings which are not associated with meetup events and instead are regulated on their own. However, as the Cleveland ultimate community continues to grow it is our goal to try and bring the game to as many prospective players as possible! Any game which is posted as an event on the meetup page will be run by a member of the meetup group and will be updated regularly. Any additional pickup games posted are run by an outside group of people not yet officially associated with the Meetup group as of this time. Never played before?
Ultimate Frisbee (AKA Ultimate) is a sport played with a 175 gram flying disc. The object of the game is to score points by passing the disc to a player of your own team in the opposing end zone. Players may not run with the disc, and may only move one foot (pivot) while holding the disc. The possession of the disc will change teams as soon as one of the following happens: offence drops/misses the disc, offence catches it out-of-bounds, or the pass is intercepted/blocked by the defense.
Don't worry too much about rules and such, It's pretty easy to catch on as long as you know the basics. We're a very friendly and helpful group who love nothing more than to teach the game to beginners, so come check us out some time!
