May '14 meetup

Our fifth meetup will be hosted on the roof at the Wix offices in the Tel-Aviv Harbor. This time around we will have two full-length talks (in Hebrew, unless popular demand dictates otherwise) as follows:

• Shai Yallin - Working asynchronously with Futures and Promises

While Scala is famous for its actor model implementation with Akka, it sports other, maybe simpler ways to code asynchronously. In this talk, we will review Futures and their counterparts, Promises, discuss non-functional concerns such as retries and timeouts, and look at designing software for asynchrony.

• Shimi Bandiel - Handling State the "Functional Way"

One of the tenets of functional programming is Immutability. Sometimes it may seem hard to accomplish.
In this session I'll introduce the State pattern (Monad) which is a must-have tool for dealing with global state.

Both talks will be recorded and published on Wix's Parleys channel. See you there!

Apologies for the massive delay -- between my crazy schedule and a bunch of technical mishaps, it took a lot longer than usual to post to videos. That said, they're now up!

Our waitlist is becoming rather massive (>20 people), so if you've RSVP'd and not going to make it we'd appreciate it if you could update your status and free your spot. Good citizenship and all that :-)

Thanks and see you all tomorrow!

The title says May 14th, but the date says May 28th. Can someone please clarify?

May 2014. Maybe we ought to be more explicit about this?

      Ah, okay. Didn't understand that.
