Developing 3d applications for Android with Env3d

Suitable for both beginners and experienced developers. Learn about developing 3d Android applications using an open-source platform called Env3d.

-

Env3d was created by Jason Madar in 2007 as a tool to teach computer programming to his university students. Jason hosted a workshop at WCCCE to demonstrate how easy it is to use it to develop Android applications, and we feel it would be a great segue to sharing it with the local developer community.

Although it has been used as an educational tool in the past, we believe it has great potential to act as a production tool for developers. We will be using it to publish several demo apps over the next few weeks. Check the comments for updates!

    Hey guys,

As Vivian (from Wavefront) mentioned, we are having a BlackBerry Evangelist (Manny Elawar) at our BB Tech Centre later this month.

You can book a one-on-one meeting with him on June 25 or 26 if you'd like. He'll be providing hands-on expert support for your latest BB10 project, how to port your Android or iOS app over, and info on BB10 app store best practice.

They're also looking for a Vancouver-based Developer Evangelist to join the team, so there's going to be a social with FREE BEER from 5pm-7pm on June 25th.

Here's the event page on our site for more info:

To a concept artist like myself, programming is not our cup of tea. However, if Env3D can ease up the pressure and frustration, I will embrace it with my heart.

Doing some programming will still be necessary to create unique game logic, however the scene editor makes it easy to throw together basic stuff quick and easy.

We published our first Env3d powered app! Its very basic, but I wrote the program myself in about a day while learning Java in 2009, and most of the time was spend figuring out the physics calculations for gravity, bouncing and the camera settings. Jason spent a couple hours on Wednesday updating the code to work with the Android libraries and here it is!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
