VanJS: Image Handling for the Mobile Web and Contributing to jQuery
Hosted by VanJS: Vancouver JavaScript Developers
Details
VanJS is back for February with two awesome speakers:
Contentious Images: Handling Images for the Mobile Web with Jacky GilbertsonSenior Designer/Developer at Mobify
When did "image" become such a dirty word? In these days of forging a multi-device web, most of the advice regarding handling images has revolved around cutting them down to size, by both pixels and bytes. This advice ignores that images aren't always just supplemental, existing only to accompany articles and add flare to content. There are many situations – such as webcomics, portfolios, and infographics — where images are the content. So let me show you what to do with them.
Contributing to jQuery with Ryan NeufeldTechnical Lead for http://MetroLyrics.com at CBS Interactive and member of jQuery Infrastructure Team
jQuery, pretty much everyone knows about it. Most people know that contributions to the jQuery project are done by creating patches, and submitting pull requests. This works well for the code itself, but what about the API documents? The jQuery sites themselves? How does one submit fixes for grammar, or outdated documents? For the jQuery team, that answer comes in the form of WordPress and some very clever plugins. Come and see how we've made it possible to contribute to the jQuery sites and documentation using tools you already know and love. All without needing a WYSIWYG.
We are at The HiVE in downtown Vancouver. It is a couple blocks away from our usual location at Harbour Center.
Speakers will begin at 6:45. Trying 6:45 as a time since we recognize many people are coming after work from outside downtown. Get there early if you can, seats are limited but there is standing room.
Post-event drinks TBA.
See you there!
