The Holidays are Upon Us

From: Julia

It's that time of year when the majority of people in our country celebrate harvest, plenty, and peace on earth by slaughtering billions of animals. For those of us who eat non-violently, the holidays can be a particularly challenging time of year. So I am writing to alert you to three meetups between now and New Years Day that I hope will provide you with all the comfort and comfort food you need to make it through. I'll list them one by one:

Turkey Free Thanksgiving - Saturday, November 22, 5:30 to 7:00 pm
First Congregational Church, 6501 Wydown (at University Lane)
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door
OR if you wish to volunteer, you will eat for free.
We have two shifts available and need 4 volunteers for each shift.
The shift times are 4:30 to 6:15 and 6:15 to 7:45.
Please sign up to volunteer!!!
This is one of two events put on by the St. Louis Vegetarian Society and will feature a musical troubadour.

December Meetup - Saturday, December 6, 6:00 pm
Bahn Mi So #1, 4071 South Grand,[masked]
Vist their website to learn more
They are known for service that could compete with that of Shangri La, so I plan to call them in the next couple of weeks to give them notice of a group meeting there on 12/6.

New Year Meetup - Thursday, January 1, 2009
This event is an annual vegan brunch put on by St. Louis Animal Rights Team, and is still in the planning stage.
I will follow up with more details as they become available.

A couple of other holiday-related items
St. Louis Animal Rights Team will be raising funds for their work by wrapping gifts at the Borders Bookstore in Brentwood (in the same complex as Whole Foods). If you plan to purchase books for holiday gifts this year, please consider going to Borders on Brentwood on the following days and times to help START:
12/13 2:00pm-6:00pm
12/14 2:00pm-6:00pm
12/19 6:00pm-10:00pm
12/20 2:00pm-6:00pm
12/21 2:00pm-6:00pm

Also, for those of you who live in Chesterfield, a new veg restaurant just opened there. It's called Vegadeli - Vegan Cafe, and it's located at 177 Hilltown Village Center, 63107. The phone number is 866.265.8799. Please patronize this restaurant if it's near to your home or work and spread the word. I hope to schedule Vegadeli for a meetup in 2009, so if you do check it out, let us know what you think.

Looking forward to seeing you next Saturday!

Julia
