Dear All,
Besides supporting a plant-based diet and lifestyle, our humane society, which sponsors this meetup group, is active in many areas that help and protect the lives of animals.  We rescue, house and adopt animals; we investigate cruelty complaints; and we lobby on the local and state levels.  We are currently lobbying to defeat a bill (Senate Bill 250) that would allow a single Siberian tiger named "Tony" to remain in a barren cage as an "attraction" at a truck stop outside of Lafayette.
Our goal is to defeat this bill, so that Tony will be forced to be relocated to a suitable big cat sanctuary.  To help us "kill" this bill, please read the following communication prepared by COLAA (Coalition of Louisiana Animal Advocates):

TONY (the tiger's) BILL is on the agenda for tomorrow, TUESDAY, for a senate floor vote.  PLEASE email your senator now!!!!
Tell him/her that

"Michael Sandlin (the owner) has exploited tigers for over 20 years: buying, breeding, selling, and exhibiting tigers in poor conditions for his own profit. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has cited Sandlin’s truck stop in the past for unsanitary feeding practices; mishandling tigers; and failure to provide veterinary care, shelter from inclement weather, clean drinking water, and knowledgeable employees to care for the tigers. In 2003, Sandlin’s animal welfare violations sparked public outcry, and three tigers were removed. The USDA allowed Sandlin to keep one tiger: Tony. He has been alone ever since.  Therefore, please vote AGAINST SB 250.

Remind him/her that the courts have spoken.  Tony must be released!
