VeloDCIty Newsletter - November 2011

Greetings All.

Congratulations to each every one of you on a successful riding season. For many of you, the season may have ended with the first temperature drop but regardless of your cycling acumen or fitness, it's a good ideal to take some time off the bicycle and pursue some other challenges for a change. Tackle one of the many 5k or 10k fun races that take place at this time of the year. Go hiking, learn something new or just enjoy the holiday season. The time off will help you recover mentally and physically. More importantly, it sets the groundwork for establishing an even more successful next season. Finally while the group rides will be reduced to 1-2 per month, there are several group activities(social, seminars, etc) that's currently being developed so please continue to monitor the group website for any announcements.

News and Announcements:
VeloDCity Jersey Order:
The 2012 VeloDCity was finalized and submitted with the good folks of Canari back in October. As you're reading this very newsletter, know that it's being completed somewhere in a near secret facility somewhere in California(okay ... Vista, CA). The order is expected to be completed and shipped out sometime in the third week of November with individual orders to be packaged and shipped out sometime later. More news and updates to be announced as they occur.

Cycling Tips: What are your numbers?
Do you know your shoe size? Okay, maybe you do but how about the metric equivalent? One of the first things that newbies immediately discover about cycling is it's standardization of the metric system for almost ...everything. That 54 size bike: centimeters. That medium sized Giro helmet: 55 - 59 CM. Normally wear a show size of 10. Then you're probably wearing a 43.5cm shoe size. This is a result of the European origins of the sport and more importantly the prominent European manufacturers such as Sidi, Campagnolo and Lazer(helmets) just to name a few who established the standards. Obviously, the best means to determine your own personal fit/size is to visit your local bicycle shop. The next best thing is to consult the manufacturers website for their specific sizing charts and have that metric ruler or tape measure nearby.
