I started writing in the 1970s. I stopped playing and writing from 1978 to 2005. I got back into singing, playing and songwriting in 2006 and have been at it since.
There are quite a few: Sunny Afternoon by the Kinks, Little Red Riding Hood by Sam the Sham and You Know You're Right by Nirvana come to mind.
My first name is Eldon and my middle name is John...and that's about as close as I get to playing like Sir Elton.
Songs can come from either direction (lyrics, or music). With lyrics it starts with a phrase and goes from there. With music, it starts with a mistake that sounds different, or cool.
I generally write on piano and play in a combination of blues, jazz and rock. Influences are Otis Spann (Chicago Blues), Ramsey Lewis (Jazz) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Rock). I have a few songs where I'll channel Scott Joplin, or Randy Newman. And, of course, every slow song has an Elton John influence.
I'm a musician, singer and songwriter. My instrument is the piano and my style is a combination of Rock, Jazz and Blues. I'm putting together a band to record a number of songs I've written.
It was good to see a number of new people and to get feedback.
