Grass Doubles Tournament Tomorrow Afternoon

  Hello Fellow Spikers,

Well, the time is drawing very close to our very first (and hopefully, one of many) grass doubles

tourney for the Pasadena Volleyball Club.  The tension and excitement are mounting as we

draw closer to tomorrow's tourney play.

As of now, these are the declared teams and how they have been placed into the 2 pools:

  A POOL

  Joy/Heather

  Priscilla and her partner

  Rocky/Ieva

  Jose/Erin

  Benjie and his "Anglo" partner

  Ben/Patrick

B POOL  (this division is now closed)

  Clyde/Christine

  Steve/Liss

  Kip/Johnny

  Gil/Frank

  Tony/Robserto

The number of games that each team plays and what teams play each other have been determined

within each pool.  Pool Play will be to 21 with a cap of 25 for tied games.  Each "resting" team

will be asked to ref and keep score of an "active" playing team.   Score sheets will be provided

  to a "resting" team.

At the end of the pool play, the number of wins and losses will be tallied for each team to

determine their final rankings within each pool.   The number of points will be used in the case

where identical win-loss records occur between teams.   The final rankings will then determine

what teams play another in the playoff round which will be single elimination with play to 21

  and a cap of 25.

Gift certificates of $15 will be awarded to each first place team and $10 for each second place team.

The first place team will have first choice of the mix of gift certificates.   Each first place team will

also receive a medallion which will be made available sometime after the tournament as we were

not able to place the order in time prior to the tournament.

The schedule of the pool play as well as the rules to be observed for grass doubles will be sent-out

later today.   Please be aware, that grass doubles rules are somewhat more restrictive than

play with teams of larger groups so that your style of play will have to adjust.

The entry fee for the tourney is $10/player and is due at sign-in/registration time tomorrow

afternoon before play begins.  I have already received the entry fees from several players

already.  And, everyone will have to sign a waiver form prior to playing.

Lastly, the goal of the tourney is to provide a challenging, competitive venue for those players in the

Meetup who enjoy playing doubles.   But most importantly,  I would like to stress that the tourney

be conducted in a fun and enjoyable manner with good sportsmanship and respect among

  the players always observed.

So, folks, let the doubles tourney begin tomorrow afternoon and enjoy!

  Mark

P.S.  I'm also thinking if we have enough nets, that we can set a net up for just general play

for folks  not playing in the tourney.
