Let's WALK One Million Steps in 2012!!! I am challenging all 100+ members to join us as we make a commitment to WALK at least 1 million steps in 2012!!!

Who wants to Walk One Million Steps in 2012?!? Does the number seem daunting? We can break that down for you.

1 million steps = 83,334 steps per month = 19,231 steps per week = 2,733 steps per day

2 million steps = 166,667 steps per month = 38,462 steps per week = 5,465 steps per day

3 million steps = 250,000 steps per month = 57,693 steps per week = 8,197 steps per day

4 million steps = 333,334 steps per month = 76,924 steps per week = 10,929 steps per day

5 million steps = 416,667 steps per month = 96,154 steps per week = 13,662 steps per day

To put it in perspective the average American walks 5,000 steps per day or about 182,000 steps per year. Dr. Oz recommends Americans walk 10,000 steps per day, which is about 3,600,000 steps per year.

If you measure your stride you will be able to calculate how many miles you walk as well. For instance, someone with a 2’ (2 feet which is 24 inches) stride who walks 1,000,000 steps will have walked over 378 miles. Therefore, if someone with a 2’ stride chooses the 2 million step challenge and achieves it they will walk over 750 miles.

You can commit anytime and update your commitment or change your commitment level anytime. We will have quarterly check-ins as well as a few monthly check-ins and challenges. All you have to do w/ the Check-Ins is RSVP Yes (in advance), update your reply by clicking "Edit Your Reply" on the Discussion Thread, then after the event enter the number of steps you have walked where you would type your event rating and comments. Monthly Check-Ins and Challenges will work the same way except if there is a Challenge you will note your status in addition to your steps. Group Members will be able to join us anytime by RSVP'ing to our Monthly and/or Quarterly Check-Ins/Challenges. These will be called "Commitments" or "Re-Commitments" as well.

Our first Check-In will be in early February. 40% of this challenge will be done online, 10-20% will be done in your mind, head and heart, 10-20% at our meetup events, and the remaining 20-40% will be done by you putting one foot in front of the other and walking.
