Re: [wam-63] WAM Meetup Information

I normally don't get involved in things like this, but maybe a suggestion for you (that the whole group would find beneficial hearing) is perhaps finding someone in the group you trust to send out any cancellation emails before 5:45 if this situation is ever to occur again. Because you are currently the only one who is sending these emails (whether because you are the only one able to, or whether it's a decision you've made), you've had to put the group members into catering to this. Instead of asking dozens of people to work with your schedule, which you bring up in your third paragraph, having one person who knows that they might be in a position to have to send that email out during a freak occurrence might be valuable.

Just a suggestion. I think this is a far better solution than having to think about "oh is this type of day a day that might get cancelled?" before every meetup, having a suitable backup to send out the email (or, even be "in charge" of the meetup in your stead, which I've seen work on several occasions) might be advantageous.

I have nothing to add for the dues, except that I don't think many people know that you as an organizer get charged a monthly fee to run the group - that's not something prominent from any sign-up page until you actually run a meetup. But $1 a person seems reasonable.

Hello WAM Members,

I would like to address the e-mails that have been sent to the group and also to me over the past few days.

Although it is not by any means my intention to cancel our meetups on short notice, there will no doubt be times when a meetup will need to be canceled due to weather, illness, or other unexpected events. Due to the fact that I cannot access the meetup site at work, if a meetup does need to be canceled on short notice, you would be notified by 5:45pm on that day.

You may also want to check your e-mail prior to leaving in order to verify that there have been no changes to the meetup. If you do not have access to e-mail and you think that details of the meetup may have changed, you may contact me at[masked]-3924. I will be happy to answer any questions you have.

After our Nov. 5th meeting, subsequent meetings will be held from 7:30-9:30pm in order to help ensure that people receive any cancellation notification, should there be a reason to cancel on short notice.

There have been several inquiries regarding the $1 fee for our meetup group. It is important that all members realize that this is not a fee I am charging rather a fee required by What many meetup participants don't realize is that the meetup group organizer pays (at a minimum) $12/month to I feel the concept of a $1 fee is a fair one - many meetup organizers charge $2 or more per meeting. I want all costs to be kept to a minimum - this is a group activity and I feel that it is important that costs be shared by the group.

In addition to the cost of the group, there is a significant amount of time and energy devoted to making a meetup group work. This is a subject that I am keenly interested in and passionate about - I like to share this passion with like minded people. I do this for the art, not the organization and I certainly hope that members of the group are aware of that.

I have only been organizing this group for a short time, but it is my hope that this group will move forward in a productive direction with a positive attitude. In that light I would like to say that respect for all members of the group is a key ingredient in making this happen - we all bring something to the group whatever role we play.
