Ah, WordPress, you magical multipurpose piece of software. We install you on our servers and you transform our stuttering little static HTML web sites into full-blown bloggin', content-managin', customizable pieces of art. How do we love thee? You probably have a plugin that would help us count the ways.

In this course, we'll open the doors to WordPress, starting with basic installation, from download to database setup. Next, we'll take you on a comprehensive tour of the WordPress admin panel so you start to get a feel for its features and capabilities. We'll show you how to start working with themes, what the difference is between posts and pages, and how to make basic configuration changes. From there, we'll explore the world of possibilities that comes with WordPress plugins so you'll have experience with the off-the-shelf goodies available for WordPress.

When all is said and done, you'll have a powerful piece of software at your fingertips and be ready to publish your content to the world.

Hosting: We'll be providing complimentary, temporary web hosting for every student in this class for the purpose of practicing with WordPress. This way you can practice on our web hosting without fear of messing anything up, and then apply what you learn on your own web host.

Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm (Doors open at 6:00pm to get a good seat and get set up)

Class 1 - January 30th: Introduction and installation

Class 2 - February 6th: Themes, posts, pages, and plugins

Access

Please bring photo ID. Upon entering 1 Broadway you'll check in with security. Tell them you're visiting the 14th floor.

Once you depart the elevator, you'll find glass doors that are locked. If one of us is not there waiting to open the door, call Nicole @ 910-233-5748 and we'll come let you in.

We're meeting in the room labeled Charles.

Payment

The total cost for the course (including both classes) is $50.

You'll pay a $5 deposit when you RSVP via Meetup.com; because we have limited space, this is to save your spot in the class.

Then, the remaining $45 will be paid at the first class. We accept cash or PayPal.

+1 Young adult discount (girls 16 and under): half-pints are half-off if they're attending with you (shrinking the gap starts early, folks).
