Up and Running w/ Bootstrap (Saturday workshop)

  • Feb 8, 2014 · 8:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Learn one of the hottest front-end frameworks and incorporate it into your work tomorrow. Follow along and learn how to build a Bootstrap-based website from scratch, incorporating the responsive grid system, see the basic CSS in action, and incorporate Javascript-based components.

Bootstrap, an open source front-end framework, is one of the most popular front-end frameworks for building responsive websites. In this hands-on workshop, Jen Kramer will demonstrate how to use Bootstrap as a foundation in your next web design project. She will lead us in:

• Downloading Bootstrap and incorporating it into an HTML document

• Working with the Bootstrap responsive grid system

• Exploring Bootstrap’s core CSS, overriding this CSS using standard CSS techniques

• Incorporating Bootstrap’s image formatting elements and icons

• Creating and styling fully responsive interactive menus with Bootstrap, including dropdown menus

• Incorporating jQuery plugins with Bootstrap, including thumbnails, modal windows, and tabs

Nichole, this is the info you asked for regarding parking. The garage at 1 Broadway did not have any signs for special rates for the weekend...full day rate was $23. The cheaper lot is in the Watermark bldg right next door to 1 Broadway on Third st. Go past the Innovation Center (1 Broadway) on Third st, and turn right after you pass the Watermark bldg next door.. The garage is $10 for Sat/Sun.

I third or fourth all the comments about how great the class was. Jen has put a lot of thought into the design of the course and materials so it was easy to follow but we were also productive. I only recently took an html intro course but was able to follow the examples. It was so great to be among a group of women and not have to feel intimidated in the learning process. Thanks Jen, Nicole and Susan. Very much appreciated.

Great workshop! Jen's teaching style makes Bootstrap very accessible & the class was well-paced. This is definitely a good class for anyone who needs/wants to learn responsive design. For anyone considering this workshop in future: you definitely should be comfortable with coding HTML/CSS but it's ok if you have less experience with JavaScript/jQuery.

Absolutely fantastic course. Jen's course was well organized. She has a fantastic teaching style that is enjoyable to listen to. The course was easy to follow, but moved at a good pace. I felt like a lot of useful information was covered in a short period of time.

Hi, I'm really looking forward to this class tomorrow! Any recommendations for parking in the area? Thanks Catherine

    February 7, 2014

    • Vino G.

I parked at the Microsoft NERD center. 1 memorial dr on a sat and it was $10. The bldg we will be in also has a parking garage it seems so they may have the same rate.
