Regular monthly meetup focused on the development of scalable web applications. Each month we will have a different speaker covering a specific technology (or group of technologies) and/or the solutions being used at their company.
Following every presentation will be a discussion period centered around the general topic of the week. Some of the topics that might be covered include: distributed key/val stores, distributed file systems, database replication, column-oriented databases, cloud computing, eventual consistency, DHTs, index sharding, parallel computing frameworks, etc. Generally anything dealing with web-facing applications and things like distribution, replication, high-availability/fault-tolerance, partitioning, sharding, and the storage and querying of data. For more information about Web Scale, read my blog post here.
The primary goal of this group is to allow all members to stay on top of all the latest technologies and projects out there through sharing our practical experiences with one another. An emphasis will be put on FOSS (Free Open Source Software) projects, though commercial applications are always part of the conversation.
