Wercker Meetup with Special Guests CoreOS & Opsee

Details
Join us for a few talks on all things containers and microservices, hosted by our friends at Geekdom. We will have pizza and drinks and will be showcasing a new Wercker feature. Presentations, including guest speakers from CoreOS and Opsee, will start at 6:30 pm.
Speakers:
• Greg Poirier, Factotum at Large, Opsee (https://opsee.com/)
• Faiq Raza, Software Engineer, Wercker (http://wercker.com/)
• Josh Wood, DocOps, CoreOS (https://coreos.com/)
Session details:
Deploying Applications in a Cloud-Native World
Faiq Raza, Software Engineer, Wercker
As software becomes more and more complex, we, as software developers, have been splitting up our code into smaller and smaller components. This is also true for the environment in which we run our code: going from bare metal, to VMs to the modern-day world of containers and microservices.
While we have figured out how to run containerized applications in the cloud using registries and schedulers, we've yet to come up with a good solution to bridge the gap between getting your containers from your laptop to the cloud.
In this talk, we'll explore how current CI/CD systems are falling behind, and how we need to change the mental model and treat containers as a first-class citizen.
Overview of Clair, the container image analyzer by CoreOS
Josh Wood, DocOps, CoreOS
Clair is a new open source container image security analyzer by CoreOS that enables developers to build services that scan containers for known security threats and vulnerabilities. This API-driven analysis engine inspects containers layer-by-layer for known security flaws. This overview of Clair will introduce the key concepts and help developers get started integrating and contributing to Clair.
A Docker Survival Guide
Greg Poirier, Factotum at Large, Opsee
For the past few years, the Linux container ecosystem has been growing at a breakneck pace with a vanguard of companies like Joyent, Docker, and CoreOS. Opsee chose to build its product using Docker and CoreOS, and for the past year, we have been delivering software continuously to production with containers. In this talk, we'll discuss the lessons learned from a year of containers in production and the mistakes that led to our current set of best practices. How do we build software for containers? How do we ship containers? How do we do all of it without shooting ourselves in the foot?
Speaker Bios:
Faiq Raza - Faiq is a software engineer at Wercker. He has previously worked at npm and Datadog, and finds pleasure in reading about distributed systems. You can find him somewhere either behind a computer screen or at bikram yoga, murdering himself.
Josh Wood - Josh's passion for the rkt secure container runtime led him to CoreOS, and he is responsible for documentation there. He enjoys photographing polydactyl cats and writing short autobiographies.
Greg Poirier - Greg is the CTO at Opsee.com (http://opsee.com/). He has done research in network security and artificial intelligence and has extensive career history in systems engineering and operations. When he's not in front of a computer, you can find him in front of a piano or singing.
