Let's Go White Water Rafting!

What: White Water Rafting, Camping, and More!! Oh Yea!!

Where: The Ocoee River near Chattanooga, TN. See this link for directions to the OAR site. http://raft.com/dirctions.htm

Rafting Specifics: We will be doing a full-day river run, starting at 8am. We need to arrive at the launch site at 7:30 am. "A full day of rafting! This six-hour trip will give you all you can handle. You get to experience two sections of some of the finest white water in the nation. We start on the Upper River and get warmed up with heavy hits at Mikey's and Edge of the World. Then come the big boys: The Olympic section which includes rapids like Humongous and Godzilla. Just when you think you're not going to make it out of the Gorge, we stop and refuel your body with a delicious brunch (sandwich, chips, fruit salad, drinks and dessert). Feeling better, we jump back on the Middle River for 5 more miles of continuous whitewater. By the time you get back to the outpost you'll be ready to collapse! Sounds like fun, doesn't it!?!?" For more info, check their full site out at http://raft.com/.

Whitewater Rafting Cost: $71.00 per person. This is for Sunday only. The Saturday trip is additional. (See that Meetup.)

You must Confirm and Pay By July 1st! I (Lisa) have money on the line here, guys, so I don't want to lose it. And, you will want to know which price range we will be in, so it makes sense for us to get the trip participants firmed up early. Also, please note you will have to sign a liability waiver prior to rafting.

Kids are welcome. They have to be 12 years or older to raft. O.A.R.'s rules, not ours.

Please do not pay until you are sure you are going! There will be No Refunds.

Please Note: Wet Dog is only facilitating this trip. We are not serving as guides, just as fellow travelers. We are not liable or responsible for anything that might happen to you, your guests, and/or your property. OAR is the guide, and you will have to sign a liability waiver for them before getting on the water.

The Wet Dog hosts are going to do what we can to make sure everybody has a great time, but your help, input and smiles all will be needed in the hot July sun! :-)

Note - we suggest you buy food up there to have less to transport/worry about, but it's up to you. :-) The cost of the trip and cabins does not include any food.

If y'all are interested in another trip, check out SLACK's hiking trip to Havasupai Falls (Grand Canyon, AZ) in May. Joe, Bojan, Leah and I are already signed up. I'm trying to figure out how to do a rafting trip down the Colorado after the hiking part. Can't wait!! Plus Mike, MJ, Beth and I are talking about planning a big trip also. Maybe Moab?? :-) You can take the girl outta the West, but you can't take the West outta the girl!!

Great time, great guide. Having Shaena (spelling?) as a guide really added to the enjoyment of this trip as well as all the boat mates, a great group. I would give it a 9 out of 10. I was spoiled by the Hiwassee, a 10 out of 10. Thanks Lisa for all your time and effort.

Lisa, thanks for choosing OAR, they were top notch. I had a fantastic time. Love all the pics being posted too. I had so much fun this weekend, it all seems a like a blur, right now, but I know for SURE, I want to go whitewater rafting again. Would love to try other rivers too. You guys are such a great group. Thank you for welcoming me.

The whole weekend was just awesome, but the White Water Rafting was absolutely the highlight! I am addicted. When do we all get to do this again?

    July 31, 2012

  • Lisa D.

One the most fun things I have ever done!

    July 31, 2012

  • Sue D.

We will bring paper plates, plastic forks/spoons/knives, paper towels & napkins & fudge. Planning on making some pulled pork for Sat dinner. We aren't breakfast eaters so likely will skip that one and sleep in.

    July 25, 2012

  • Joe3

I'm headed up there tonight and am bringing a 60 quart cooler that can be used for food, beer, whatever. I have a smaller cooler for my beverages. There seems to be plenty of food, I'll just see what is mising and buy that locally. Is alcohol allowed at the campground?

    July 25, 2012

  • Kim H.

I have an electric prong that heats up water for anything instant, a few utensils for cooking whatever I buy up there for potluck Sat., salt and pepper, 1 pkg bacon and sausage for breakfast. I need to put meats in your cooler Lisa, I'm using soft cooler for stuff until I get there then I'll get ice. Limited since we're carpooling. Did shrink sleeping bag in one of those vacuum bags and clothes.

    July 25, 2012

  • Pattie

We can even have waffle sandwiches - LOL. I love waffles.

    July 25, 2012

  • Lisa D.

I am bringing a mega bag of waffle mix, iron & extension cord. I will bring veggies for Sat night. (depending on what I can buy up there) We can even have waffles for dinner.

    July 25, 2012

  • Lisa

Sounds delicious everyone! Yes there is electricity in cabins to plug in griddle. You might want to bring a folding table?

    July 24, 2012

  • Geza

Tina and I are bringing a two burner camp stove, an electric griddle(assuming here is a place to plug it in), the makings for French toast for breakfast ; and brats, coleslaw with orange sauce, tomato salad with feta and basil and zuccini to grill for dinner.

    July 24, 2012

  • Carol M.

I did not get the "what to bring email". I have a small Lodge frying pan to bring, and will bring oranges and bananas for breakfast; salad, chips, and brownies for potluck dinner.

    July 23, 2012

  • Pattie

I plan to bring smoked sausage and eggplant to grill on Saturday night. Corn chips and salsa for snacks. I can bring a dozen eggs and some bananas and yogurt to contribute to Saturday breakfast.
I have no camping equipment, but can bring a small boom box that plays CD's.

    July 23, 2012

  • Joanie

Hi Lisa - I did not receive last minute detail message. My email is [masked] Thanks, Joanie

    July 23, 2012

  • Lisa

I'm bringing a 2-burner camp stove, a pot, a pan and some cooking utensils. I'll contribute fruit to the sat morn breakfast and chicken or turkey brats and hummus/pita to the Sat evening picnic potluck :-)

    July 22, 2012

  • Lisa

As it says in the message, if everyone would please post what major camping equipment they are bringing and what they will contribute to the Sat morn breakfast and Sat evening potluck, that would be great! This way we're not all bringing all kinds of gear and the same food.

    July 22, 2012

  • Lisa

Hi everyone - I just emailed a what-to-pack and last minute details message. If you didn't receive it, please let me know. (Leah, I don't have your email address, so please send it to me so I can send you the message. Thanks!)

    `grats Lisa, job well done.

Joanie, Karen, Tina (and please RSVP for Kathy, Tina), and Geza, please RSVP and pay for for a cabin spot as soon as possible, no later than Friday at 5. That is the final cutoff. Thanks!! :-)

    July 10, 2012

  • Ben D.

If you don`t come up with another to make 20 is it still a better price if everybody else kicks in another $3.75 to get the discount?

    July 10, 2012

  • Lisa

Also after the folks who cancelled, we need one more person to definitely get the 20+ discount on the rafting. We have one person on the list who hasn't paid or said he is going to, and Mike's plus two aren't rafting on Sunday. (They tend to frown on 18-months old rafting. lol) So if you know of someone on the fence, tell them to RSVP and pay! :-)

    July 10, 2012

  • Lisa

Hi everybody - I'm putting together the contact list. I still need cell phone numbers for Leah, BB, Joe, Geza, and Kathy (Tina's friend) and Jason if coming. Plus emails for Geza, Kathy, Carol, Leah, and Jason. I need BB's full name, and Kathy, Leah and Joe's last names. Thanks. This is one of those safety/coordination things... :-)

    July 10, 2012

  • Lisa

Hey everybody, just a reminder that payment in full was due on July 1st for the Ocoee and the cabins. Please make sure you pay by tomorrow at the latest, as I will be solidifying the reservations based on who has paid this weekend. Thanks!!

    July 5, 2012

  • Carol M.

Just got back from New England last night at midnight, but paid for the rafting and the cabin today (July 2nd). Can't wait to go :-)

    July 2, 2012

  • Lisa

Everyone who needs to rent a cabin spot, please make sure you RSVP and pay by July 1st on that Meetup. Thanks!!

    June 27, 2012

  • Lisa

Bojan the cabins are the KOA in Cleveland Tennessee, so if you want to camp then just call them and make a reservation. :) We will be at that campground

    June 27, 2012

  • Lisa

    Michelle, sorry to hear that

    June 27, 2012

    HI Lisa,

Did anyone figure out camping at any KOA camp grounds near the cabins? If so, please tell me where exactly it is so I can have least one person from the group there. Thanks

    June 22, 2012

  • Lisa

Yvette, Eric, Jason, and Paul - please leave a comment about your carpooling arrangements and to confirm that you need a cabin. Thanks!

    June 21, 2012

  • Lisa

Carol, no problem thanks for info. Tina, no worries at all, I really appreciate all of the help you've given me. Michelke, ok on your status.

    June 20, 2012

  • Michelle H.

Hi Lisa! I would be happy to carpool with you and contribute to gas. I should get confirmation this week from work. So, not 100% sure yet in case someone else can needs a spot. I will keep you updated. Thanks!

    June 18, 2012

  • Tina S.

oops, sorry, wasn't trying to boss, what I meant to say was, at the planning meeting, try to get a head count !

    June 14, 2012

  • Tina S.

Lisa, if possible try to get a head count on Hiwassee paddlers for Sat and potential drivers , # of available seats, and I can make those boat reservations if needed, if more seats are needed, Geza and I can leave our personal boats behind and put more seats in my van. Thanks ( my cell[masked]

    June 14, 2012

  • Carol M.

I am sorry to miss the planning trip as I am now in Vermont through July 1st. I am in Leah's carpool (thank you Leah!). I would like to be in the KOA cabins. Pattie mentioned wanting to see Ruby Falls and take a tram to the top of Lookout Mt., and either that or the hiking are interesting to me for Saturday. Rafting of course on Sunday. My times are flexible, as I do not teach in the summer. :-)
