Wet Dog has chosen a relief organization.

Hello Wet Dog Adventure members,

As many of you know we now offer an optional membership with this meetup group. You also know that we are giving back to Haiti in our Wet Dog way, by giving $10 of every "Wet Dog Supporter" membership to a Haitian relief organization.

We'll, after much thought on where to send this donation we have discovered an organization that fits our Wet Dog Ways. We have researched and organization through our church, Cypress Meadows called Shelter Box. This ingenious relief organization provides a waterproof plastic box filled with survival gear including a ten person tent, water purification tablets, blankets, first aid, drawing books, crayon and pens for the children, entrenching tool, saw, hammer, wire cutters, multi fuel stove. In addition, there are pans, utensils, bowls, mugs and water storage containers. The box it self can used for food and water storage, etc.  They are a very cool group and feel this is a good as place to start as any.  You can check them out here:

Upon further research we found that we could even track where this shelter box will go. Your organization's box receives a number and name on it and through the website you can see where the box was sent.  Shelter Box is now in Haiti as of last Thursday and starting to make a difference on the ground. The SRT's "Shelter Relief Team" are not lightly chosen.  After reading what they have to go through physically and mentally to be even chosen to volunteer, I wondered if I had it in me to do this. For now Wet Dog will try to due it's best to contribute in this way.

Now some of you may be thinking... What's with the membership dues? We'll to be honest we planned this for a few months and wanted to launch the new optional membership idea to the group in early January. Yes, were hoping the group grows as a result of this, and as they say "a high tide floats all boats" We think that the larger our group grows the more of an impact we can have on things like this and our local environment. Originally our idea was to give back to an Eco Friendly organization that we have a history with called "Tampa Bay Watch" I just simply decided upon hearing of all this misery that we could pool our resources together instead for relief of Haiti.

If you want to help out with this or perhaps on trip ideas, or become an assistant organizer please let us know. We’re happy to announce our first "Wet Dog Supporters" We’ll keep them anonymous in this email.   Join them and remember you too could WIN a FREE NEW MANITOU SEA KAYAK among other prizes, Including a Paddle, Eagle Salt Water Fishing rod and reel, camping head light and many "Wet Dog Supporter" benefits.

Thank you for participating in events and all your support to this group.
