Seedstock and Real Assets Junkie are excited to announce that we’ll be hosting the first Las Vegas viewing party for TEDx Manhattan, better known as TEDx Food, on Saturday March 1, 2014 at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas. Save the date or reserve your place now!
We plan that the day be a celebration of the incredible contribution that our numerous local food and sustainable agriculture non-profits make to the Las Vegas community. We hope it will allow participants to find a non-profit with which they would like to volunteer.
What’s TEDx Manhattan?
TEDx Manhattan is one of the most prestigious of the TEDx events; a day long series of inspiring 15 minute talks designed to stimulate discussion around ‘ideas worth spreading’. TEDx Manhattan’s focus is ‘Changing the Way We Eat’. This year’s speakers include, Peggy Neu, creator of ‘Meatless Mondays’ and Tom Colicchio, of Craft Restaurants, and head judge of “Top Chef”.
What are the Logistics for the Day?
Thanks to the generosity of Springs Preserve, a 180-acre cultural institution designed to commemorate Las Vegas' dynamic history and to provide a vision for a sustainable future, we’re hosting the event in the beautiful Big Springs Theater. The full TEDx Manhattan schedule will be live broadcast from New York from 7.30am onwards. Being three hours behind New York, we’ll break for a family-style brunch at 10am, over which local food non-profits will have the opportunity to describe their work and mission. After the afternoon broadcast from New York, we’ll end the day with a no-host bar from 2.30pm onwards so that we can continue the conversation. We’ll fill in the details of the agenda as we get closer to the date.
How Do We Get Tickets?
Tickets are on sale at our website. Ticket prices, at $25.99, cover the cost of catering (brunch as well as coffee, tea and water throughout the day) and credit card processing fees only; we’re not charging for admission itself, nor for our time in organizing the event. We’re not seeking any further sponsorships as we’d like this day to be about our local non-profits alone. Under TEDx rules, we’re limited to 100 participants, so we wanted to be sure that you knew about the opportunity as soon as possible!
How Can We Get Involved?
1. Suggest a Non Profit. We’re looking for 4-5 awesome local food and sustainable agriculture non-profits to talk over brunch, and would very much welcome your suggestions as to who should be included. There will be presentation equipment available if they want to make a formal presentation, or their presentation could be more informal. We’ll have an information area at the back of the theater on which all attending non-profits can display their marketing materials.
2. Marketing. TEDx Manhattan’s organizers kindly featured us in their September national newsletter, and we’d now like to get the word out to as many local folks as possible. We’d be grateful if you were able to forward this email to anyone for whom you think the event would be interesting.
3. Volunteers. We’re hoping to find a couple of volunteers to help us out with marketing ahead of the event, and with logistics on the day of the event.
Finally, if you have any other suggestions for the day, we’d love to hear from you!
