Intro to Wikipedia & edit-a-thon

  • March 9, 2013 · 10:00 AM

Join us for an Intro to Wikipedia, followed by lunch and an Edit-A-Thon, at HubSpot in Cambridge.

Whether you are brand new to Wikipedia, or a seasoned editor, you are welcome! There will be a workshop for beginners at 10am; the edit-a-thon will be from 11am to 3pm. We plan to focus on marketing and technology but you are welcome to work on any wiki articles you like.

What to bring:

* a laptop (Please let us know if you need to borrow one, we will try to accommodate requests.)
* ideas for topics or articles you might want to work on (see below)
* any relevant reference materials you might have
* any digital photos you've taken that you would like to use on Wikipedia
* or, if you don't have any of the above, just bring yourself :-)

Thank you to all the attendees. It was a very productive and educating afternoon. Look forward to meeting you all again. Happy editing. Best, Rebecca.

Astonishingly helpful. One participant quickly analyzes & solves a vexing problem (caused by an unhappy but well-intentioned edit warriior). Another knows more than I do about a subject I've been researching for 2 months.

Very, very informative and well suited for not only for those just starting out with Wikipedia, but for those with some experience as well.

I do need to borrow a laptop! My Lenovo was helpfully reforatted from Windows to Ubuntu and I don't know how to use Ubuntu. (I'll bring it along in case someone else does.)
The 'Massachusetts Institute of Technology' entry could use a few tweaks. (Also, one user says he'd like to see a panoramic view taken from someplace like the top of the Pru.) But it's not hurting nearly as bad as 'Aaron Swartz' entry.

I will be greatly interested in this, in that I use Wikipedia constantly but have little idea of its workings and am too timid to edit.

By the way, there's a Meetup page on Wikipedia too, if you'd like to add suggestions for articles to work on, etc. Sign up in either place! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi...
