Every since I was a teenager I have been searched for hair care solutions. I recall one my dearest friends a kinky haired Italian bombshell lamenting the decade of strait is beautiful, we were so riddled with jealousy it has fueled a lifelong bond of friendship and hair understanding. My tresses are shoulder length while hers were at her waist. Each of us has enough kinks to strike fear into the hearts of hairdressers.

Those shows where they depict me or my Curly/Kinky sisters as the ugly duckling, really burn me up. When hairdressers proceed to destroy a beautiful head of lifelong Curls or Kinks, because they haven’t taken the time to learn the art of styling our hair, it makes me shutter. Depending on the tightness of the curl it takes us years to grow enough length to show off our inner diva maven manes. Of course on Halloween, everyone wants to rock the biggest Afro, or wildest curly wig they can find-because they know we look hot.

Natural Curly/Kinky Mavens take different paths to showing off the most versatile hair in the world; cutting most of the hair off, perm/straitening or living room styling. Oh most think of African-Americans as the mavens of sofa bed styling: Ah but the desperate Curly/Kinky resides in Ireland, Israel, Mexico, and the various Middle Eastern cultures. We know each other, because we come up to one another on the street with question like who cut your hair. How do you get that shine? How do you straiten your hair? Can you do my daughters hair?

Curly/Kinky Mavens, let’s get together and share ideas, hairdressers, products, sofa’s, etc… while we enjoy asserting our unique beauty.
