Are you one of those women who looks at shows on T.V. like "Sex in the City," "Cougar Town," "Hot in Cleveland," etc., and wonders... "Why don't I have friends like that? Why has life deprived me of the witty repartee I so richly deserve? Where is the opportunity for me to just ring up a few friends and grab brunch?
If so, then may I say... Welcome to W.I.N.E!
The Women's Independent Network Experiment is a newly formed group for women over 40 who are looking for friendship, conversation, and FUN!
WE ARE: Women who are generally successful in life, working, retired, housewives, married, single, mothers, women without children, pretty much comfortable with who we are, who have time to take to meet new people and make new friends, women who like to travel, women who can be spontaneous, women looking to build kinship with other women for the sole purpose of amusing ourselves.
WE ARE NOT:
- A "mom's" group for mothers who are looking for an escape from the house or people to hook up with for play dates - there are dozens of those on Meetup.com, and I'm sure they'd be happy to have you. Moms are welcome, but small children should not factor into your ability to "get out of the house." We're more spontaneous than that. You should not need to get "permission" to attend from anyone else.
- A self-help group for really needy women with a lot of "issues." We want people with positive outlooks and plenty of fun in them. Neurotic women are welcome to attend, as some neurosis can be exhilarating! =)
Warning: If you are easily offended by adult topics of conversation, then perhaps this might not be the place for you.
Look, we get it. It's hard for women to make friends. This experimental group is to see if women can purposefully recreate the prototype of those groups society tells us we should be in... drinking martini's, talking fashion, sex, general gossip, etc.
It's worth a shot, right?
IMPORTANT NOTE: This group is meant for women who are central to the New Tampa area (Northeast Tampa , Lutz, Land O'Lakes, Wesley Chapel, etc.), and most of the events and meetings will take place in this area (unless we're traveling, cruising, beaching, shopping, etc.) - so please make sure you're close to where we are. If you show up complaining about how far you had to drive to get to wherever we are, you will be asked to find yourself another group where it's more convenient for you to attend.
Independent Sales Rule: We realize that this might be a great opportunity for networking for your independent sales business (Mary Kay, Tupperware, etc. - I, in fact, sell Thirty-One), however, the purpose of this group is not to find new people to market your wares to. After the group is established, we will try to plan some sort of event for everyone to share what they do. But as a general rule, do not join just to find new customers. That is not the type of "network" we are working towards. If someone asks you for a catalog or wants to book a party, you're welcome to provide them with that information - but you may not "market" your business at meetings, intentionally.
It is our intention to have a group where women feel free to be themselves. In order to do this, the above statements are meant to be open and honest directives to help promote a level of comfort and security within the group - without hidden agendas. So, yes... the above may sound harsh and hurt some people's feelings, but then that should be an indicator that this may not be the right group for you. Let's face it... the internet has thousands of groups and networks for people to join. Most of them have a specific idea about who and what their members are and can offer to the group... this one is no different. If you think this all sounds rather b*itchy... then perhaps you should form your own group to talk about how much you don't like THIS group. =)
All kidding aside, we are looking forward to meeting those women (and who knows, maybe even a few GBFF males - to complete the stereotype) who are looking forward to meeting us.

*Dinners
*Brunches
*Lunches (well, ya gotta eat, right?)
*Shopping
*Movies
*Drinks out with friends
*Girls' nights in
*Beach trips
*Day trips
*Vacations (cruises, overnight jaunts, etc.)
*Conversations about whatever we feel like talking about
*Whatever else we feel like doing...
We welcome open-minded individuals with no pre-concieved notions about what we're up to. =) It is what it is... a shortcut to women being women in the best possible way!
