Wisconsin Business Owners Lunch & Learn: The Wallet-Heart Connection
Details
We're hosting a Holiday Party tonight, and you are invited to that too!
We have a special focus this month: Wisconsin Business Owners are in position to do a great deal of good. We are gifted to select when and how we support others in need. Sharing our blessings with others is important!
“What’s in your heart?”
Capitol One likes to ask “What's in your wallet?” The more important question is, “What's in your heart?” So often we get distracted by the pressures and demands in our lives to the point where we don't take time to listen to what's in our heart. The demands of business can lead us to forget the people we work with and live with at home. We can easily lose sight of important relationships and find that sometimes we miss opportunities to bring healing, hope, and the promise of new life to others.
There are miracles inside each of us waiting to happen. When we see the enormity of the problems in the world around us, we are sometimes tempted to ask why God doesn't do anything about it. God's response is, “Funny, I was going to ask you the same thing. I have already given you everything you need to help. What are you waiting for?”
When we serve others we experience meaning, substance, and peace in our lives. Our world becomes a little bigger when we see the perspective of others who face crushing needs – staying warm, having enough food to feed children, having warm clothes. There are miracles inside each of us waiting to be used. What is in your heart waiting to bring healing to those in need?
This time of year we often remember those in need, but those who face basic life needs face them in July as well as December. Every time we care for the least, the lost and the last, our hearts grow a little bit bigger. We experience greater meaning, purpose, and peace.
Business Owners are twice blessed. They have an opportunity to create and grow a business as they serve others. Then, they have another opportunity to serve with their time, talent, and treasure to those in great need.
Meet Our December Presenter:
http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/5/8/7/7/event_431722647.jpegTom Kent serves on several boards of directors for non-profit corporations focused on feeding the hungry and providing comprehensive care for those in need; Worldwide Hunger Relief, Sussex Outreach Services, and Bread of Healing Empowerment ministries, as well as others. He particularly enjoys being part of the process that leads people to self-sufficiency.
He is a Lutheran (ELCA) pastor, a psychotherapist in limited part-time practice and does consulting with non-profit groups, churches and small businesses. He serves a church that was struggling and almost closed in the late 1980s leading it to a thriving congregation of over 1200 members today. In therapy and consulting work, he enjoys leading people to discover and experience their core purpose and the path to greater fulfillment, clarity and joy, and to have fun doing it.
Tom’s 2 Charities of Choice Wisconsin Business Owners Can Support:
Sussex Outreach Services (SOS)
SOS is an organization created by 6 different churches in Sussex serving over 500 people in need in the school district. It has a food pantry, emergency assistance (rent, heat, transportation, clothes), a part time case worker and a director both working directly with the many clients it serves. By the time people need food they have hit bottom. Food is the last thing we stop buying. As a result the greatest need SOS faces is financial to address the other needs our clients face – heat, gas, clothes, laundry, etc. Financial gifts also address needs year round so that SOS is able to meet client needs later in the year when many others have forgotten about them. SOS is a 501c3 Non-profit corporation. All gifts are tax deductible.
If you choose to support urban needs working among the poorest of the poor, Bread of Healing at 16th and Fond du Lac provides a free health care clinic for the uninsured and under-insured 5 days a week. It also provides a free restaurant quality meal on Wednesdays followed by 12 step recovery groups, food pantry, a jobs training program, and other forms of assistance for those in need. Bread of Healing is also a 501c3 non-profit corporation.
This is our invitation to share our blessings with others!
