Great Neighborhood Spot- by mathewbrock
am an Arriba regular who's been going to this great little local spot for
years. The food is standard Mexican fare, but the Crepa de Camarones is most
definitely the best thing on the menu. Margaritas are some of the best in town,
with tons of flavors and sizes to choose from. The staff are like family...
chatty with the locals, which may seem off-putting to those tourists who wander
in, but which we here in NYC love. With the DJ spinning in the back, it has a
club-like feel and gets busy most nights, and more often than not there's a
line out the door for a table. I guess that means there's just more time to
have another margarita! If you want a quieter experience it's best to go before
7 or 8 pm.
My family first found this restaurant in '06,
when we just happened to stroll by. Since then, my daughter and I have made
two trips to NYC and this place remains on our MUST DO list.
FOOD: Chips and salsa are great and the food is simply amazing.
Being from Texas, we were hesitant about Mexican food in NYC, but
are so glad we stopped by. We haven't tried any of the
"traditional" fare (fajitas, enchiladas, tacos). Our favorite
item on the menu is on the "Chef's Favorites" portion of the menu
(available only after 6:00 p.m.). The Bistec ala Veracruzana (steak with
shrimp and onions in a cream sauce) is incredible! The Pollo Borracho
comes in a close 2nd.
SERVICE: The wait staff are
always friendly and attentive. They get extra stars in my book because
back in '08, we stopped in about 4:00 and wanted the Bistec ala Veracruzana,
and had forgotten it was an "after 6" item. My daughter and I
explained that we had brought my mom in on a visit from Dallas and had raved
about the food and really wanted her to get to try that dish and they made an
exception and made it for us!
Kindly pay the $3.00 fee to Paypal when you RSVP -
this is to maintain the Meetup site, printing costs, group costs.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
