UU Church of Worcester
Join us for May's monthly meeting where we will celebrate the National Day of Reason with Jessica Ahlquist
The National Day of Reason is a chance for us to affirm our commitment to the Constitutional separation of religion and government, and to celebrate Reason as the guiding principle of our secular democracy. What better way to do this than with someone who actually suceeded in separation religion from government ad upheld our Constitution!
Jessica is the 16-year-old Rhode Island high school student who successfully sued her school district to remove a prayer from her school’s walls. She will be sharing her amazing experience with us with time for questions and answers after. If you want to get a overall perspective prior to her appearance, wander over to Hemant Mehta's great blog where there is a ton of information on the lead up, court fight, Jessica's rise in the young atheist movement, the win and eventual backlash. Or just wait to hear it from the "evil little thing"* herself!
(*A RI state rep called Jessica this on a radio show)
We will start at 7 at the UU Church of Worcester, with doors opening at 6:30 for socializing and conversation. Everyone is welcome, but we do ask that non members make a suggested donation of $5 at the door. A yearly membership with Greater Worcester Humanists is $30 which helps us organize our monthly meetings and organization costs.
