Wooing eCommerce with WordPress

Hope you're all closing out 2013 strong with 3.8! We're announcing our first Meetup of 2014 : Wooing eCommerce with WordPress

January 22nd at 6PM at Automattic.

We'll be talking more about WooCommerce this coming year and this is the big splash opening!

Come along to get an introduction to the WooCommerce plugin for WordPress and to discuss the idea of building a store on WordPress (and why you would want to).

Brent Shepherd of WooCommerce Subscriptions fame will be taking the stage to really get you going on WooCommerce. We'll then be having a show-and-tell for all you WooCommerce users out there.

WordPress, the world's most popular publishing software, now hosts the world's fastest growing e-commerce software, WooCommerce*.

So why is WooCommerce so popular? Why would you want to set up a store on WordPress? And what the heck is this WooCommerce thingamajig anyway?

In this talk, Brent will demonstrate the most interesting features of the WooCommerce plugin and discuss why its open source foundation combined with a marketplace for extensions is helping foster a rapidly growing community. He’ll also share the stories of some folks now making a living thanks to the free WooCommerce plugin.

Brent now lives is San Francisco but hails from Australia where he was a co-organiser of WordCamp Melbourne and WordCamp Gold Coast. He’s just helped kick start the WooCommerce San Francisco meetup and because he has an unnatural love for the plugin. That's also why he spends his days as an independent WooCommerce developer working on WooCommerce Subscriptions - the most popular 3rd party extension in the official WooCommerce marketplace.

helpful presentation by Brent, helpful chat with Maria, friendly people!

This was the best ever for me. Speaker knew his topic, the slides were perfect (although the type is always too small unless you're up close), and he gave his presentation in detail but in terms I could understand. Bravo!

Excellent gathering! Does anyone have the URL for the Woocommerce book deal that was in the presentation?

On the same track: is there a place to park a bicycle indoors at Automattic?

    January 22, 2014

    • Brent S.

They've allowed me to bring my bike inside at previous events.

      1 · January 22, 2014

    • john k.

I have seen bikes inside as well

where is the best place to park near Automattic? or park in East Bay and take BART?

    January 22, 2014

    • john k.

Hi Catherine -- I have always been lucky and have found parking on the same block at the Automattic office, I usually show up right before 6 -- I hope you have the same luck as I

Anyone that can help me accomplish these for a client selling a recurring physical product? - Every member (through WooCommerce Subscriptions) is a affiliate and has affiliate number

-As a member registers they are directed to set up their affiliate status so that new customers who sign up with an affiliate member code will generate a credit on the affiliate member's account

-There are 3 levels of affiliate compensation starting with 5%, 7%, and 10% and each affiliate will move up in compensation percentage as they sell more products

    - This is all automated and linked into the member account page so the affiliate members can see what their status is.

-Members have an accounts page where they can see affiliate status, their current subscription information such as: what is scheduled to ship and when, option to edit subscription, shipping info and address, and how many affiliate sales they have. - replace paypal integration with WellsFargo banking integration

Hi Catherine, sounds like a lot of moving parts. I'm not sure how it could al be pieced together with off-the-shelf extensions. Come along tomorrow night though and between Maria (from WooThemes) and I, we might be able to come with a combination of extensions that handles most of those features.

I believe so, but if not, I can share the slides and content other ways. :)

I too am out of town and would love to see a recording of this event. Re the affiliate question: we were planning on using omnistar with woo commerce to track and manage affiliates. do you have any other affiliate software recommendations?

Hi, does anyone have recommendations for a WP responsive theme that works well with Woocommerce as well as Buddypress or WP-Symposium?
I've found many really good themes that integrate well with woocommerce but none of them seem to play well with BP or WP-Symp.
