For December's meetup, we're doing lightning talks.

For those not familiar, a "lightning" talk (as the name might imply) is a talk delivered in about 5 minutes. If you have a relevant topic you'd like to share with the group, this is a great opportunity to do so.

It's important to note that it does not have to be a development-related talk. Topics related to business, marketing, entrepreneurship, design, content strategy, publishing, or really anything that a WordPress meetup go-er would find interesting...are all more than welcome.

We're aiming to have about 8-10 talks, which will give speakers time for about a 5 minute presentation with room for a brief round of questions each, along with our usual networking and social time.

If you're interested, please submit a message to the organizers with a brief bio and talk description.

We'll update this description with new talks as they are confirmed.

This meetup's food, drink, and venue are once again sponsored by Rock Creek (http://rockcreeksm.com/) and CHIEF (http://mybigchief.com/).

The Talks:

"C'mon, have some standards!" - Nathan Disidore and Joe Robinson of Targeted Victory's development team will go over how to use PHP_CodeSniffer to get WordPress code up to VIP standards.

"Computer-free WordPress" - Anthony D Paul of EightShapes will give tools and tips for installing, customizing, and launching a new site using only your phone.

"Fast, Flat, and Fun." - Jake Reid of Social Driver will talk about how to launch innovative WordPress sites by keeping the project running like a race car.

"E-courses is the new video is the new ebook is the new blog post: Noise and the value of online content" -Brent Summers, creative lead of Pareto Arts, a DC-based digital agency.

"Verbatim WordPress plugin demo" - Ramsay Lanier, senior web developer at nclud. Verbatim is a WordPress plugin that allows readers and authors to deep link directly to content.

"Art vs. Science in Creative Collaboration" - Emily Hoxworth, creative director of Vox Global.

"BuddyPress as the Foundation for Training, Distance Learning and Support for Business and Government" - Lisa Sabin-Wilson, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Owner of WebDevStudios will talk about how they leverage the power of community with the BuddyPress plugin to build intranet portals for government and business operations and training.
