February Meetup (Social Media Week)

  • Feb 19, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The week of February 18-22 is Social Media Week. We haven't done a meetup on anything related to social media in a while, so now is as good a time as ever!

If you are interested in presenting a social media campaign that leveraged WordPress, demoing a social media plugin, or something else, please contact [masked].

Pizza will be sponsored by 10up, a leading WordPress consulting agency. 10up is a distributed agency with more than 20 employees and clients like TechCrunch, Time Inc., AARP, and ARLnow. 10up just hired its second DC area developer and is always hiring developers, strategists, and project managers.

Just some FYI. There's a Whole Foods with a garage on P Street between 15th & 14th. Maybe that's can be option.

Only if you want your car towed. I looked there.

I don't drive, so I don't know all the ins and outs of that garage. I thought that so long as you bought something you had about an hour of time.

I just want to say that while I hate driving in DC I love the location provided. Parking is an issue but in my experience that is an issue pretty much anywhere in DC or any other major city I've ever been in. That's why I probably wouldn't own a car if I lived in a major city.

The only times I've had problems in DC once I learned that trying to find a parking spot is a difficult quest are the times that I've opted out of taking the metro for one reason or another.

That said, there is some parking in the area. If it is after 7 there is even more parking. Many of the major streets allow parking in the right most lane after 7 and it isn't even metered which means free (bonus). So if you don't mind a short walk (5-10 minutes depending on exactly where you are) and being just a few minutes late, plan on being there just after 7 or even right at 7 then pull up next to one of the many signs that say no parking and read the fine print. It probably says you can park there after 7pm.

Rock Creek Strategic Marketing would be happy to host the WordPress meet up if folks want to shake it up a bit. We are right on top of Friendship Heights metro (on border of DC and Chevy Chase) and have a parking garage in our building.

I suggest trying the metro for all those that had issues with parking. It's one of the sad realities of socializing in DC. Rhode Island and Union Stations stations, both on the Red Line, have garages that you can park and not get towed. Take the red line to Dupont Circle.
Also the garage at gallery place and you can take the Green/Yellow Line to Howard-Shaw and exit through the Rhode Island side. Both stops put you about 7 blocks away.

Since I couldn't find a parking space and missed the event...just thought I'd mention I'm looking for anyone that can program plug-ins for WordPress. Thanks

Great meet up, good discussion, and BOSS! Big thanks to Andrew, & Aaron for organizing, 10up for pizza & refreshments, and especially Fathom Creative for hosting the meet up (really nice space). For Adam, here's the plugins I remember: AddThis, WordPress SEO by Yoast, Social, Facebook, Jetpack, BuddyPress, bbPress, and maybe Search bbPress? Looking forward to the next meetup. Press on!

Missed the event tonight but would love to see if we could find some great Wordpress designers in the DC area that could launch Wordpress blog for our company. Would like to see some work samples.

The focus is on the tech/electronics industry and this would be for well known brand.

It's equidistant from a number of stops. McPherson and Dupont tend to be most popular.
